Did a bit of shopping at Belmont Forum a couple of hours ago.

I looked and looked but I did not see anyone apart from me wearing a mask.

What a total (deliberate) public health messaging failure by our governments with the flu and Covid still running rampant and a couple of new variants (Eris and Fornax) already spreading around the world and now spreading in Australia.

Take a bow, Australian pollies (Labor and Liberal). I'm sure your big business masters are proud of you. "Masks are sand in the gears of the economy" (according to them).

https://nitter.net/LettersfromTim/status/1696015946924896763#m

“But neither variant seems to cause more severe disease than earlier Omicron strains which were themselves less virulent than the pre-Omicron variants,” Dr Joel Zinberg wrote for the NY Post last week.

Fails to mention omicron is responsible for most of the deaths worldwide…

Yep.

And, I bet if I asked any of the coughing, spluttering people I heard and saw when I was shopping (some of them sounded like they were hacking up a lung) I'm sure they would all say something like "Oh, it's just a cold".

Unbelievable.

Looks like Covid and it's deaths have "magically" disappeared in WA.

No Covid report for last week.

https://covidlive.com.au/

And you can bet that the 41 deaths reported for Australia could at least be doubled due to several States now "hiding" the numbers.

Tim here wants to know why there was no WA report. In fact, he asked twice.

Western Australia did not report COVID data today

Why @RogerCookMLA ?

Why is there no update for Western Australia?

Hope you're not holding your breath waiting for Roger to reply, Tim.

At least my elderly aunt is now home to stay and safe after her fall 3 months ago.

As an example of how 99% of the population have been deceived into believing Covid is mild or over I went with my aunt to Royal Perth Hospital on Thursday morning for a follow up appointment after her surgery on June 21st.

The only mask I saw apart from ours was one surgical baggy blue being worn under the chin by one staff member.

Unbelievable.

Needless to say, Tim never received a reply from Roger.  Roll Eyes

Makes me wonder why these pollies even bother having social media accounts because they never reply to anyone (except to themselves when they have more BS to add to a previous post).

Of course we all know they don't post (or read) anything themselves - they have a (probably overpaid) social media 'team' to deal with all that.

And, I will ask again - what is the point of telling people to "use personal responsibility" (lol) and "assess their own risk" (lol again) regarding Covid when governments are slowly but surely removing the data and information needed for them to do so (even if they were capable of doing so or even cared)?

Once again, the "lols" are because we've all seen how well "personal responsibilty" works with a population the majority of whom have the attention span of a goldfish and can't think any further ahead than what's for dinner tonight or what's on Netflix or when they can take their next overseas or interstate holiday.

Hi there Carl if 99% of the people are not wearing a mask
And you are .then perhaps it is you who would be found unbelievable

I know you are a big fan of the West coast eagles and AFL
Nearly 1 million people going to go to a live final in the next three weeks
It is doubtful that a single one of them will be wearing a mask
You really are terribly out of touch with real Australia

As a side note my non mask wearing partner has informed me that official Queensland health policy is that staff do not need a covid booster
That's right Carl
The science has told my wife who works in a hospital
That there is no case for her to receive a booster

Believe the science Karl
Stop being a conspiracy theorist and rejoin society
You and your aunt may still be able to get tickets to a final
And you will be able to go and participate in some human flourishing

That's probably because we're waiting for our useless Federal government to order some new vaccines because the ones we have at the moment are almost totally ineffective against the new variants that are now spreading.

FDA signs off on updated COVID boosters. Here's what to know about the new vaccine shots for fall 2023.

Quote:
The Food and Drug Administration signed off on updated COVID-19 vaccine and booster shots Monday, moving one step closer to making the new shots available for the public to get boosted for the fall virus season.. The decision comes amid an increase in COVID hospitalizations and concern about the spread of several new variants.

But... you know... give them time (especially since the pandemic is supposed to over according to our governments and big business).  Roll Eyes

Meanwhile:

"On Friday 1 September 2023, Queensland Health opened consultation on the requirement for its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

"Consultation follows a recent review, which took into consideration the changing nature of COVID-19, expert health opinion, the safety of employees and patients, all legislative requirements and a range of other factors.

"Queensland Health has invited its employees, union partners and patient safety advocacy groups to provide their feedback within a two-week period, with consultation closing on Monday 18 September 2023.

"Any decision that comes out of consultation will have their employees' and patients' safety top of mind.  An outcome is expected by the end of September."

In the interim:

"Health service employees must be up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccinations.

"Health service employees are any Queensland Health employees employed under the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 in Hospital and Health Services and the Department of Health."

From the letters section of today's The West Australian.

I rest my case.

I was reading yesterday about nurses and healthcare workers somewhere overseas who, after an average of 5 Covid infections are either too ill to work anymore (Long Covid) or they've just had enough of being sick all the time so they've quit.

Might have been Canada or the UK, can't remember where.

Doesn't bode well for healthcare, does it? Too many sick people and not enough nurses and other staff to care for them because they're also sick and/or quitting in large numbers.

I also read something the other day where an ex virologist believes that if today's insane amount of air travel had been around during the time of the 'Spanish' flu (1918-1920) then more than a billion people could have died.

That would have almost been an ELE (Extinction Level Event) when you consider the world population at the time was 1.8 billion, don't you think?

(The death toll from the 'Spanish' flu was estimated to have been 17 million to 50 million, and possibly as high as 100 million, 17 million would have been 1% of the world's population at the time).
