lol... like that's EVER going to happen.

Scientists warn Coldplay fans to dust off face masks ahead of Perth concerts

Quote:
When Coldplay entertains more than 100,000 concert-goers at Optus Stadium they will be joined by billions of other living organisms - a soup of highly transmissible COVID variants floating around the crowd.

Prominent epidemiologists have cautioned the public to take extra precautions as the latest figures from WA Health showed case numbers were steadily rising in the state as the British rock groups’ World of Spheres tour gets ready to kick off.

Quote:
University of Western Australia epidemiologist Zoe Hyde said anyone attending the concert should wear a mask, preferably an N95, on public transport and at the stadium.

Hyde, who has never been infected with COVID, said wearing a mask every time you leave the house was one of the best ways to avoid the virus.

“It’s a very simple principle,” she said. “If you don’t breathe the virus in you’re not going to get sick.”

Nice try, Zoe. But, when you have a Premier (who should just stick to politics and not be out and about doing maskless photo ops 3 or 4 days after testing positive for Covid like he was just recently) and a Chief Health Officer who both keep telling everyone to "wash their hands", "cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze" and "stay home if you're feeling unwell" with no mention of wearing masks then I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing 100,000 masks at Optus Stadium on the 18th and 19th of November.

In fact, I'd be surprised if we saw 10.

Not sure why this is in The Sydney Morning Herald? I wonder if it will be in our The West Australian this week? My guess: Probably not. I haven't seen it in there for the past 3 days.

Oh, and "dust off face masks" is hilarious. "Buy some" would be more like it because I'm absolutely certain the maskless hordes I see when I'm shopping don't have any masks stashed away at home in case they suddenly decided they needed them.

While aquascoot's hero fumbles around in Queensland (obviously not wanting to upset Annastacia and the tourism industry) at least a bit of Covid common sense is returning to WA.

For now, at least.

Masks back in force at Perth hospitals as COVID cases grow

Quote:
An increase in COVID-19 cases across Perth will mean staff and patients in parts of Perth hospitals are required to wear masks again from Monday.

Anyone in high-risk hospital clinical areas including haematology, oncology, organ transplant and renal dialysis and intensive care units will need to wear a surgical mask.

Quote:
WA’s Chief Health Officer Dr Andy Robertson said cases had been increasing since early September, with the Omicron XBB variant EG.5 circulating.

“It’s an expected part of the ongoing evolution of COVID-19 in the community as people’s immunity wanes over time,” he said.

“Given the increase in COVID hospitalisations and health staff off sick, health service providers have agreed on consistent mask recommendations across our public health system.”

This needs to be extended to all healthcare and aged care settings and they really should be using proper masks like N95/P2 but at least surgical "baggy blues" are better than nothing.

Let's see how long the mask wearing lasts this time.

Some more real science here from Dr. Berger:

Meh, if we lose a few Coldplay fans does it really matter?   Undecided

Nope. Not to me. I still have no idea whatsoever why they are so popular?

Sorry, Zoe... as I predicted it didn't look like there were too many masks being worn. Would have been the same for both concerts.

https://twitter.com/10NewsFirstPER/status/1726169119702094207

In fact, I couldn't see a single mask in the entire video. What a surprise.

Kinda like playing Where's Wally/Waldo? but about 10,000 times more difficult.

Expect to see a lot of social media posts over the next few weeks with comments like "I went to the Coldplay concert and now I have this weird cold/flu, does anyone know what it might be? Is it something new that's going around?"  Roll Eyes

lol... déjà vu.

Same thing happened last year (except Covid probably wasn't as rampant then as it is now).

OMG did they not see the Cold Play concert.

And, just like the Coldplay concerts I guarantee not a single mask will be seen during "Schoolies Week".

And, again... I'm sure there will be lots of "I've got some sort of weird cold or flu" social media posts in the weeks afterwards.  Roll Eyes

6,000 aged care COVID deaths since beginning of pandemic, 1,233 deaths this year (so far).

I'm not a "lefty". Well, not anynore. Not after it finally dawned on me that there's no difference between Labor and Liberal anymore. Hasn't been for quite some time but it has become blatantly obvious over the past few years.

But, even when I was a "lefty" I definitely didn't consider myself to be a "loonie" one.

Donny Osmond? Nah, I don't have the teeth for it. Mind you, they're quite good for my age but they're nothing like Donny's pearly white gnashers.

Some close friends of mine went to Coldplay last night (I turned down the ticket they offered me) and I've told them (nicely) to keep away from me for at least a week.

They understand why, and are perfectly happy with my request.

From today's The West Australian.

I also missed the warning about Coldplay but there was lots of news coverage about schoolies week. Funny about that.

And I was right - it would have been about 10,000 times more difficult than playing Where's Wally/Waldo? to find Andrew's mask in the crowd.

My old man is in a nursing home in Midland. Mum said they had a testing centre out the front to check people before they were allowed in, they recently removed it and Covid went through the nursing home. Dad caught it, still kicking and I'll be over that way in early Dec to see him, probs for the last time.

And I'd like to ask you all to kindly keep your bugs away from me while I'm there. I haven't had Covid yet that I know of.
