My old man is in a nursing home in Midland. Mum said they had a testing centre out the front to check people before they were allowed in, they recently removed it and Covid went through the nursing home. Dad caught it, still kicking and I'll be over that way in early Dec to see him, probs for the last time.

And I'd like to ask you all to kindly keep your bugs away from me while I'm there. I haven't had Covid yet that I know of.

That's rough, Set.

I hope he pulls through okay.

On reflection, I'm pretty sure my father died from COVID when he passed away in the nursing home last year.

I hope your father is OK, Setanta.

That's the problem with our hospitals and aged care places - when they have a Covid outbreak masks and other protections are brought back but as soon as it's under control they start to 'relax' again... no masks or other precautions taken until the next outbreak.

I saw the same thing happening at the transition care place my aunt was in for 2 months before she came home in early September but at least they had mandatory negative RATs for visitors and staff the whole time she was there (even though you can have Covid and be infectious for up to 2 days before RATs show a positive result).

Why am I not surprised?

Louisa Wales - X/Twitter (Nitter)

In a busy Western Australian tertiary hospital ED this evening and I can confirm the “return to masks” in hospital settings is nothing more than a press release.

Louisa writes articles for a local paper so I'm hoping she'll be able to have one published about this.

I'm sure she will also let John Flint at The West Australian know. John has had several honest Covid articles published in The West Australian and The Sunday Times over the past few weeks.

Well... well... well...

... imagine seeing something like this after 2 huge Coldplay concerts at Optus Stadium the weekend before last and School Leavers Week last week.

COVID-19 wastewater surveillance

Makes an absolute mockery of our hapless State Health Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson and equally incompetent Premier Roger Cook being "concerned" about Covid cases in WA getting close to 500 per week.

As I've said before.... 50,000 new cases per week would probably be closer to the real number if everyone was getting tested and they could report their positive RATs.

And, I'm betting most of these cases are re-infections.

Here's an interesting discussion about this:

Anne-Marie Newton - X/Twitter (Nitter)

Quote:
Latest @WAHealth C0VID-19 wastewater surveillance for Perth metro (24 Nov).

Folks, we have gone from bad to worse.

Highest it's been all year - WAY higher than mid-year wave.

Still going up.

Quote:
I note this wastewater result follows the Coldplay weekend, and some of Leavers' week. And the December Xmas parties haven't even started 😳

What a disaster. When can we expect to see the "soft landing" that former WA Premier Mark McGowan said we were going to have when he finally caved in and opened WA's border over 18 months ago?

We haven't even "landed" yet and nearly 1,300 West Australians have died from Covid so far.

dr gerrard  (world reknowned expert) confirms

Dr Gerrard said the current admissions were still much lower in comparison to Queensland's two large COVID waves in 2022, which saw hospitalisations peak at about 1,000 patients, alongside two smaller waves which saw about 500 people admitted the same year.

While I'm absolutely certain it's "quiet" in Nowheresville, Outback Queensland (population:10) that doesn't seem to be the case for the rest of the State.

Queensland paramedics are being so run off their feet they’re skipping meals on shift.

Yes, Dr Death has been very successful (in causing Covid infections, hospitalisations and deaths), hasn't he?

Anyway... this is the WA Covid thread, perhaps we should have a Queensland one? If we discussed Dr Gerrard's (and Annastacia's) incompetence it would probably end up being as long as this WA thread or even longer.

Here's the  data on 7th July 2022 when the COVID levels in wastewater were equivalent to what we are seeing today.

And we're told that cases in WA are currently getting close to 500 a week.

Pig's arse they are... there would have to be at least 30,000 active cases right now... probably a lot more.

What's the bet that the WA government (and the rest of the States) will soon stop reporting Covid wastewater levels seeing as it's the only reliable means left to determine how much Covid is in the population?

It's not meant to be an argument, just a statement of fact (in my humble opinion).

Quote:

That's because the majority of them don't know. All they have been told by Premier Roger Cook and the useless Amber-Jade Sanderson (our State Health Minister who knows more about business and hospitality than health - and it shows) is that they're "concerned" about reported Covid cases in WA getting close to 500 a week (lol).

No... no, they wouldn't. Especially when we have so called leaders like Chris Minns in NSW who wouldn't isolate himself even when he obviously has Covid.

Not enough handwashing and taking personal responsibility by Chris, apparently.  Roll Eyes
