I just spoke to a doctor there and they told me there is an outbreak of a mysterious gastro bug in the general Perth population, and it has made its way into the hospital. Several staff members are off work as a result.

Just got back from doing a bit of shopping at Belmont Forum.

Wasn't very busy but I saw more masks being worn than I've seen for weeks.

Maybe the message is slowly getting through to people? Despite the WA Government's lame "Don't assume you're immune" advertising campaign which 'kicked off' this week' but doesn't mention masks (or Covid) of course.

Seen a few of the ads on TV over the past 2 days. I believe it's costing WA taxpayers 1 or 2 million dollars - money that could be better spent buying high quality masks for hospitals (and making sure they're worn properly).

At least they haven't said washing your hands is the best protection (against respiratory viruses) for once. Well, they haven't so far.

Not COVID related - shopping centre related.

I went to the Park Centre (Vic Park) at about 1:30pm yesterday and it was packed.

The car park was full and there were cars everywhere driving up and down looking for parking spots.

It was as if it was Christmas or something.

I have no idea what was going on, but I can't remember ever seeing it that busy.

School holidays for the next 2 weeks here in WA (this week and next week).

That's why I was a bit surprised when I saw Belmont Forum so quiet.

Mind you, it was 9:30am when I was there, it's probably a bit busier now getting closer to lunchtime.

The weather's sunny today as well so a lot of people could be out and about (even if it is a bit cold).

Yes, on and on it goes... forever.

Must be nearly time for the WA Government to stop wastewater testing and reporting for Covid like Victoria did last week... depends if it's WA's turn to stop reporting next, of course.

Premier Roger Cook or his hapless (and hopeless) "Health" Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson (who apparently knows more about business and hospitality than she does about health) may need to consult the minutes of the recent Secret Squirrel National Cabinet meeting where they probably decided the order in which the States and Territories have to stop Covid wastewater testing and reporting (like they're doing/have done with Covid cases and deaths).

And... again... the graph shows how the wastewater sampling and Covid testing numbers matched pretty closely until (almost) everyone was led to believe Covid was over and (almost) everyone stopped testing a year ago.

My elderly aunt had a fall yesterday morning and spent the night at Royal Perth Hospital - fractured her right hand but she's OK and home now.

Saw a few staff wearing masks (even saw a couple of high quality masks like the ones we wear) and they kept my aunt's mask on as much as possible while she was there. I picked her up at 7 this morning (I could have picked her up at midnight last night but the lady who called me just before midnight decided it was probably better to wait until this morning and I agreed).

I went down to RPH at 5pm yesterday to see her but due to the never ending and increasing ambulance ramping she was still with the ambulance people and I wasn't allowed to see her at the time so I got the bus back home.

What really pissed me off was I caught the 935 bus from Rivervale at 4pm and I was planning to get off at Victoria Avenue in the city and walk up to RPH but guess what? The bus went to Optus Stadium to drop off all the Dockers fans for the footy (it doesn't normally go to Optus Stadium and I was wondering why nearly everyone else on the bus was wearing Dockers colours when I got on) but it wasn't continuing into the city so I had to get off and walk the rest of the way to RPH via Matagarup Bridge. In the rain. Lucky I had my umbrella with me.

Which probably ended up being quicker than the other option of walking from Optus back to Great Eastern Highway and waiting for another bus that was going to the city.

F---ing footy. No shortage of buses and trains to get people to and from that, of course.

We might have passed each other in the corridors at RPH yesterday - my mother went back in by ambulance yesterday morning.

Still in AMU today, and being moved to a long-stay ward this evening.

I saw a few masks, but not enough.

And they were still cramming as many people in the lifts as they could. I took the stairs.

I hope mum doesn't catch COVID in RPH again this time, but the likelihood is high or, she could catch RSV again Sad

Hi, Greg. Sorry to hear about your mother again, I hope she's OK and gets home safe.

We had quite an adventure yesterday. After my aunt fell at about 10:30am (I took my eyes off her for 5 minutes to take the Saturday paper to our neighbour next door) I called the people who shower her 3 days a week but they were not allowed to send anyone out to assess her.... something to do with the care package she's on or something and the lady said they were not qualified to do it. Fair enough.

I then called 000 and an ambulance paramedic came and checked her out, cleaned and put a dressing on the cut on her hand and put her arm in a temporary sling but he couldn't tell if there was any other damage apart from the obvious swelling.

I then took her to St John Urgent Care in Cannington (which was what the paramedic recommended) where they did an X-ray which confirmed the fractures. They called an ambulance which then took her to RPH (I would have gone with her in the ambulance but I would have had to leave my car at St John and go back for it later).

After the ambulance left I took the car back home and caught the 935 bus... and you can see what happened after that in my last post (in hindsight I should have driven down to RPH but I was concerned about finding a place to park).

When I arrived at RPH at 5pm yesterday I went straight to the Emergency Department reception and they said my aunt was still with the ambulance people and waiting for a bed so I went back home. When I picked her up at 7am today I went to the Emergency reception again and someone took me down a corridor to my aunt then we got her ready to leave and we went out through the main reception doors (no one was working in that area at that time which is why I didn't go in through there and went straight to Emergency instead).
