OCD is caused by maladaptive coping strategies (unhealthy behavior)

Maladaptive and Adaptive Coping Styles Questionnaire (MAX) that Moritz and his colleagues recently developed. This questionnaire measures coping styles using three dimensions: maladaptive coping (such as thought suppression, rumination), adaptive coping (e.g. problem-solving, acceptance), and avoidance. Participants gave information about coping strategies they adopt against their OCD symptoms such as problem-solving and rumination, as well as other coping styles that have only recently been adopted in therapy, such as acceptance and suppression.

Participants with OCD were found to possess more maladaptive coping skills than all others, including those suffering from depression. They also possessed fewer functional skills to help them cope and adapt. Those who lacked adaptive coping were also likely to have a resistance to symptoms, and poor insight about their condition.

I nearly fell over with shock when I picked up the Sunday Times at our local IGA about an hour ago (wasn't very busy but I was the only one there wearing a mask - as usual).

On the FRONT PAGE and also on pages 4 and 5.

I'm still laughing at the pathetic "excuse" given for not mentioning Covid.

... omitted based on "consumer research". Grin

Mind you, there could be a grain of truth in that seeing as nearly everyone now believes Covid is over or it's "just a cold".

So, Governance and Public Health is now based on "consumer research", are they? Just great.

They still can't manage to say the M(ask) word, of course. But I'm sure John Flint and Dr. Andrew Miller would have liked to use the M word but I strongly suspect they have to be careful not to upset the government (or the owners of the newspaper) too much.

It'll be interesting to see how many more people are wearing masks when I'm out shopping this week and how long it lasts.

I'll be also interested to see how many staff are wearing masks at Royal Perth Hospital when I have to take my aunt there this coming Friday for a follow up appointment after her fall last weekend.

Perhaps I should take today's paper with me to show them? Undecided

Took my aunt to Royal Perth Hospital this morning for a follow up appointment after her fall nearly 2 weeks ago.

We had to go to "O" Block which is at the Cathedral end of Goderich Street, at least we didn't need to go to either of the main buildings today.

Barely a mask in sight apart from my aunt and I.

I did see 2 or 3 masks on patients in the waiting area but no staff were wearing them as far as I could see.

Plenty of hand sanitiser around though, of course.

Oh, while we were waiting to see the doctor after the x-ray was done on my aunt's right wrist I did see a little 'pop up' message in the bottom right hand corner of one of the staff's computer monitors.

It said something like (can't remember the exact wording): "Ongoing exceeding of capacity in ED" (Emergency Department).

One of the staff told me they see that message quite often these days. Hmm, I wonder why?

He also told me they have quite a few staff off sick at the moment with Covid or the flu.

Feels more and more like we're living in an episode of The Twilight Zone lately.

Looking at the death numbers just released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics for this year (up to July 31st) I'm wondering if now might be a good time to ask WA Premier Roger Cook and his hapless (and hopeless) Health Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson, why Covid wasn't mentioned at all in their recent 5.2 million dollar "Don't Assume You're Immune" vaccination advertising campaign? Undecided

I spent five days in hospital waiting for an MRI. WA’s health system is at breaking point

Nope, it couldn't be Covid. Even though the last time I took my elderly aunt to Royal Perth Hospital a month ago I was told that they had a lot of staff off sick with Covid and the flu. Greg was also told that RPH was rife with Covid just recently.

People should not be going to hospital, getting infected and DYING just because staff don't want to wear a mask (and the government is too afraid to try and enforce mask wearing - plus they want to maintain the illusion that the Covid pandemic is over).

“It quickly became obvious that the vast majority of staff, including doctors, nurses, cleaners and catering staff who entered Cheryl’s room were not bothering to wear the PPE that we were assured would be worn, even though supplies were left outside the door, specifically for the use of those entering,” he said.

It really is about time the lawsuits started.
