"Period Parties"

Watch...all the Aussie bashing ghouls will drop on this for another cheap shot.

But.....here is the story. I have several Grand Neices, and I was surprised today to see a Face Book photo of two of them, each entering Grade six, but one is much taller, developed than the other.

Because of that height difference, in ignorance, I had assumed there was an equivalent age difference......but nah.

So, I rang to get clarification. Yes, same age but the taller one has just commenced her 'period.'

Bloody hell....at age 11??????????????????

But.....that is not the point. So.....it seems that, contrary to my times, there is now this thing called "Period Parties."

FMD....what a pile of total crap and it must be harmful to some of the peer group. Gawd....what next....."I am pregnant at age 12 Party?"

OK Aussie, I'll play.

If period parties help take the shame out of a girls first menstruation, then all power to them. Girls these days are very open and just treat it as a bodily function, as it should be.

You may think a period party is over the top but would you prefer this? I reckon anything that moves humanity away from this is a good thing.

You might be obsessed with India. I am not. How on this Earth is it okay these days for some Mums and Dads to hold a party like this...knowing that some kids there might well be embarrassed about it.

What is the benefit? Where is the plus? Does the newbie bleeder get really happy about what is nothing more than a simple fact of life? Garbage.

It never happened in my day, so why these days. It is just so bizarre.

What is next......Parties for "Pregnant at 12?"

Pay attention, it's a recent story and this has been in the news. The young Australian of 2021 is an activist for menstrual stigma and period poverty.

What 'shame' was there ever about getting a period? That is bullshit.

The shame/feeling of difference would be on the female kid who was invited to the 'period party' and they had not yet had their period.............and at 11/12 years of age????????

I'm with Gordy on this one. It's a rite of passage. Experts have long warned that rites of passage are noticeably missing from modern western culture and drawn attention to consequences of that. There is a stigma about periods. I saw the first ever advert using actual red for blood recently. It was fantastic.

Secondly, comparisons with sex are outrageous. No equivalency. There is nothing sexual about a period. It actually wigs me out a little that you would go there, Aussie.

Thirdly, 11 is a perfectly normal age to begin menses. It is not premature at all.

I agree there is lack of direct equivalency. However, arguably, the two are a rite of passage etc.

I have no issue with that. Sure, if it is regarded as shameful (and I do not accept it is) then that should be addressed.....but not with a bloody (pun not intended) party which is basically a boast about something which happens without talent, other than gender.
