I reckon the deep seated resentment in him starts with that issue.

He believes .... quite genuinely too I bet .. that anyone around him who is living the life he craves/craved must be telling lies. Why? It proved to be impossible for him to achieve so therefore it IS IMPOSSIBLE for others around him to achieve also.

In Monk's world ....people like that just don't exist.

In my world though....these sorts of people are all around me and we as a FAMILY fit into a neighbourhood of families with mortgages and issues with raising children. It's normal. Monk does not understand the concept of normal.
