They don't want war. They just want China to be honest.
BIG ASK.
Cor blimey, the US is absolutely paranoid about China's economy surpassing the US. "Biden: "not on my watch".... That's why Biden is attempting to get Putin onside....a reversal of the situation in 1971 during the height of the Cold War, when Nixon cosied up to China.
[At the time the US economy was double the size of the USSR, but nuclear capabilities of the two sides were comparable (ensuring MAD). Now China will soon overtake the US economy, so Biden would like to hinder a China/Russian alliance.....but Putin is too smart, he knows (with his nuclear arsenal) he can play an elevated role in the emerging new multipolar world, by keeping his distance from the US].
As for honesty, it is viewed through ideological lenses.
eg, China has dealt with fundamentalist Islamist terrorists in Xinjiang by re-educating them; the US - for 20 years - tried and failed to bomb them into submission, resulting in wide-spread poverty in Afghanistan, cf with the increasing living standards in Xinjiang.
Which is the more honest and productive method for dealing with Islamist terrorism?
