Recapping the situation in Victoria

There was a bit happening during that press conference, so here's a quick snapshot of the main announcements:

A sixth locally acquired case was confirmed. Five new locally acquired cases were announced shortly after 8:00am (there were 10 cases in total, five of which were reported on yesterday), but Acting Premier James Merlino confirmed authorities had been advised of a sixth new case shortly before the press conference. That case will be included in tomorrow's figures.

It brings the latest outbreak to 15 cases,

all of which are linked and are believed to have stemmed from the hotel quarantine breach in South Australia. However, contact tracers are still looking for the "missing link".
The Department of Health has identified 301 primary close contacts from the outbreak, with negative results being returned for about 80 of those. Test results for the remainder are expected to come through today.
Mr Merlino says he can't rule out taking "further action" in terms of restrictions, adding that the next 24 hours will be "critical".
Work is underway to set up additional testing sites across the state

Once is an accident, twice a coincidence: but if Victoria gets hit with yet another wave of the Wuhan virus, then that’s just sheer, staggering incompetence.

Victoria is far and away Australia’s worst-performing state in the COVID pandemic: more than twice the number of infections and a shocking nine times as many deaths as all the other seven states and territories combined. That horrific failure is almost entirely due to the Andrews government.

It was the Andrews government which set up to fail the disastrous hotel quarantine scheme that was the origin of some 90% of its infections and deaths. Victoria also reacted with the known strategy of failure: community-wide lockdowns (although, to be fair, most Western governments have stupidly followed much the same useless policy).

Yet Premier Daniel Andrews boasts that Victoria has “higher standards” of pandemic management than any other state.

That boast looks likely to be put to the test. Again.

Victoria has reimposed mask mandates – $200 on-the-spot fines for non-compliance – and other restrictions after recording a handful of new cases. Perhaps this is just a typical overreaction from the authoritarians who’ve become addicted to locking whole populations down. Others are worried that it’s a grim case of déjà vu.

How pathetic. This whole fiasco is more than coincidental.
Victoria.....you’re standing in it, and fed it.
No wonder when I spoke to real estate agents in Qld I was told of the unprecedented number of people fleeing Victoria to go up there. 30,000 plus and people were buying property online during our lockdown last year without even seeing it in real.
I’m stunned how a place we had for over 14 years, has recently gone up $150K this year!
And rent has risen $100 plus per week with bidders offering more!

hotel quarantine was forced upon them by scomo ... hotels were never built to act as quarantine chambers and don't do the job. Scomo need to stop hindering state governments from moving those in isolation into camps out in more isolated regions.

As for Victorians not being the brightest sparks.... more to do with the Andrews govt. and the Northern suburbs......EACH and EVERY TIME Angry

BTW..... I’m quite happy wearing a mask indoors again.
When we flew up to Qld a few weeks ago, it was mandatory masks at airports and in the plane.
So it’s not that difficult to wear a mask ... again and again.

I have lotsa pretty ones too!
