What we are seeing is a shift in public perception of asylum seekers/illegal immigrants.

Successive governments have been very good at hiding away these people from the public eye.

In this case we've had a small town of "average Australians" (from Queensland of all places) actively speak out against government policy and make enough noise that it's being picked up by media.

And we have seen two little girls, born here, ripped from their home and locked up as the criminals they are.

Our current dislike on asylum seekers/illegal immigrants stems from the Howard government's quite successful children overboard scandal. Although it was the Keating government that introduced mandatory detention.

Since then we've lauded Abbott's claim that he stopped the boats We don't know for sure because he stopped media reporting on any boat arrivals, a practice continued by the Turnbull and Morrison governments and likely a Albanese government.

In fact, Morrison himself is quoted as saying the Government would “never” declare victory over asylum seekers arriving by boat as there will always be those who try to give it a go.

Now we have a little girl being treated for sepsis in Perth as a result of untreated pneumonia.

If Morrison is right, that there will always be those who try to give it a go, then why are we making these children suffer?
