As others have pointed out, the fact that they have returned to Sri Lanka twice since attempting to claim asylum seems to indicate that they are in no danger there. Roll Eyes

Even if there was some substance to their claim, they only had to cross the 50 miles or so of the Palk Strait to be in the Tamil homeland in southern India where they would be among their own people. No need to travel all the way to Australia for refuge... Roll Eyes

So....why is Australia holding these people at Christmas Island? Send them back to Sri Lanka or bring them back here. Why the fuqqing around, costing us $M6?

To get them used to not living in Australia?

Repercussions for overstaying their Visas... to slow down their constant re-applications for residency?

The cost of having them in detention is always being tossed up by the supporters of these queue jumpers .....

but never mind the cost to taxpayers for all their legal challenges.

They've had 2 rejections ... that should be it ... they should have gone home.

They are illegal economic migrants.
