Indonesia is the new epicentre of the COVID pandemic as the Delta variant surges and vaccination rates lag

A COVID-19 crisis has unfolded as the highly transmissible Delta variant tears through Indonesia, where health facilities have buckled under the pressure.

Cases in the fourth-most populous nation in the world are soaring — killing doctors and children — and it has become the new coronavirus epicentre, surpassing India, despite only having a fraction of its population.

On Thursday alone, official figures revealed more than 49,500 new positive cases and 1,449 deaths — the highest since the pandemic began.

Sell home test kits, we need them urgently

Not a bad idea.

If Health are worried, they could come with a Q code, which could be registered at the pharmacist when you buy. It could be mandatory to report the results.

The thing about testing though, is the recording and contact tracing that come with them. Also, pharmacies are not yet set up to monitor and record tests.

Doesn't mean we could'nt try.

Exactly

It need not have anything to do with governments, we need to exercise our consumer right to just go and buy them for personal use

I exercised my personal right to get tested at a Laverty Pathology pop up clinic.

Results took two days longer than the NSW Health clinics.

Sometimes, the government does a better job.

I see. So why are people in the Eastern suburbs not following Govt directions?

Here's my idea. Anyone who is unvaccinated and vulnerable, old or just scared should totally lockdown, and the Govt will send them free food supplies.
They can hide until they have their vaccine. Everyone else should just get back to business.

Ah so. Food, medicine, health services, disability care, social services, the occasional cup of tea and a chat, with a vacuum-sealed perimeter to keep the germs in, and us out.

That could work. Starting from... now.

HIV+ ?

Hard to say. The Dallas Buyers Club was a pretty good movie, but our government led a model response in HIV prevention.

Vaccines are one health service where government is pivotal.

Michael Yabsley recommended early on that people should pay a token fee to get covid vaccines. Why? Just because. Neolib user-pays ideology that individuals should be responsible for their own health.

He was howled down on Q&A, and the howlers won the debate. Even a 15 cent fee on plastic bags prevents consumption. Costs come with consequences, good and bad.
