When you say "some" hunter gatherer groups were quite liberal with passing their wives around, do you mean australian aborigines? Do you think the wives had any say in the matter, or would that be a little too egalitarian?

It's an attempt to classify those that oppose them as racists.

As well as, of course, the targets of their racism.
