Is Florida doing OK?
Aug 26th, 2021 at 4:55pm

Horseboy said Florida and Texas were doing fine, setting an example. As usual, horseboy had not done any research. Let us listen to a doctor in Florida, shall we?

Quote:
recently came across a photo of myself in late December 2020 getting my first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine. I was ecstatic. Many of my colleagues posted similar images. Even though we were all wearing masks, no one could miss the smiles on our faces. This vaccine was the hope we’d been waiting for. In that moment of jubilation, I could not imagine the tragedy to come.

In the hospital in Tampa where I work as a hospitalist, the daily number of Covid-19 patients held steady in the 20s between January 2021 and July. While some of those patients were incredibly sick, and some died, the work felt doable after the crushing summer surge in 2020.

Then everything changed. Beginning in late July, the number of Covid-19 patients we are caring for has skyrocketed. The hospital went from fewer than 20 patients with active Covid-19 to more than 200 today. When the two floors of our Global Emerging Disease Institute quickly filled with Covid-19 patients, we scrambled to convert other areas of the hospital to treat them. The inpatient rehabilitation facility was closed and reopened as a Covid-19 unit. Every three to five days another unit was emptied to make room for the Covid-19 patients flooding the hospital’s emergency department.

THAT don’t sound good, does it? Even to the chode Horseboy.

Quote:
It’s not just the number of patients that’s worse this time around. They are also sicker. I’ve gotten used to seeing a patient during morning rounds on minimal supplemental oxygen who ends up in the ICU before the day is over. I cared for one patient who, in 24 hours, went from being on a small amount of supplemental oxygen — 4 liters — to being on a ventilator. When even maximal ventilator support couldn’t provide him with the oxygen he needed, I called his wife and told her I didn’t think he would make it. She broke down on the phone and asked if we could arrange a call for their 9-year-old son to say goodbye to his dad.

I made eight similar phone calls that day.

Quote:
An ICU bed cannot save a life. It takes a team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, environmental services workers, and others. And we are stretched too thin.

Quote:
For me, the most devastating part of this surge is that it didn’t have to happen. The hope that I and other health care workers felt when Covid-19 vaccines arrived was real. Vaccines have since become easy to get — at the corner pharmacy, pop-up vaccination center, on the job, and elsewhere — which makes it unfathomable that nearly all of my current Covid-19 patients haven’t been vaccinated.

Vaccines save lives and reduce the risk of serious illness and hospitalization. In the face of this surge of Covid-19-related hospitalizations and deaths, I can’t understand why some people still don’t want to get vaccinated against a virus that is killing their family members, friends, and neighbors. Their decisions have pushed the health care system, and me and my colleagues who will care for them when they get Covid-19, to the breaking point.

Teachers are not even allowed to ask students to wear masks thanks to the Repug governor of Florida. Texas is the same and doubtless has the same surge of COVID19 patients.

WEAR your masks, PRACTICE social distancing, GET vaccinated!

Too true, whether Scoot is stupider than Booby or vv is really a moot point.

Booby thinks copying and pasting is a “brave act” and in the light of such stupidity you can do nothing but shake your head.

A churl of the round table is Boooby.

if youre a "fraidy cat" it would seem "stupid'
to climb mt everest or ride a motor cycle or surf or scuba dive.

some people are just "up for a challenge".

i think covid could be a really interesting experience.
it might be life changing

I agree, dear. A couple of weeks on a ventilator could provide the time to practice some gratitude meditation, catch up on the positive affirmations and visualise that hot babe riding in your new turbo-charged 4wd.

Maybe do a few 30 second workouts in your hospital bed and keep the lungs ventilated.

All that, or just watch the games shows and infomercials on hospital cable. Listen to Wayne Dwyer's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People on Audible.

Every little bit helps, no?

even those climbing 'Mt Everest' or 'riding a motor cycle' or 'scuba diving' listen to the experts. Those that don't aren't 'up for a challenge', they're merely a statistic

I rode bikes in my youth. Some of the stuff I did while building two houses with my then business partner would have had ’scoot running very fast in the direction of away.

Nothing stopping ’scoot or Booby volunteering as porters or cleaners in the COVID ward of their nearest hospital. After all, the real man seeks out danger, doesn’t he?

There's nothing to stop you being brave and visualising those things, JS.

You could be the next Sir Edmund Hillary, you just have to have a positive mindset and vibe with the champions.

What is the point of climbing Mt Everest? Been climbed before!

Scuba diving, free diving—you see wonderful things. I chased a big fish around and around a rock—magical. Also speared fish and collected abalone.

Everest is really hard, even with all the porters and ladders laid over the traverses.

Best to leave volunteering to Centrelink recipients and little old ladies, dear.

The Superior Man cuts his teeth in business. He sets an example to the youth through his fine leadership skills and enterprising, "can do" mindset.

You won't see the noble Donald volunteering. Sure, he spent four years as prez and CEO of America Inc, but that was just an exercise in branding, practicing his golf swing and filling his empty hotel rooms with lobbyists and chode public servants.

An interesting scientific phenomenon. 90% of people who visualised working out hit their fitness goals in 30 days or less.

Read your Anthony Robbins. The noble Donald started out in Manhattan with holes in his shoes and a dollar bill in his pocket. Now look at him.

All it takes is a positive vibe and a killer instinct. You too can have that pile of cash and the chopper and the hot babe model wife, you just need to think like a pro.
