WA lockdowns
Aug 31st, 2021 at 6:14pm

The AMA reckons WA will need to stay locked down until vaccination rates reach 90% because their hospital system is so under resourced.

If 90 is never reached does that mean WA will never open?

*shrugs*

Can't say I really care, probably the same as most West Australians.

Oh..

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-31/wa-covid-reopening-delay-likely-mcgowan-n...

Quote:
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg yesterday warned it was becoming ever more apparent "you cannot eliminate COVID"

BS... no Covid running around loose here in WA as far as we're aware.

Quote:
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was inevitable the Delta strain would come to WA and, when it did, it would move quickly.

Really? I'm sure you'd love to see that happen, wouldn't you? Same as your 'puppet' Gladys who's turned New South Wales into a disaster area probably would.

Quote:
"People think borders protect people from COVID," Mr Morrison told Perth radio station 6PR.

Yes they could. Trouble is, its your incompetence due to not having proper quarantine facilities set up for these endless "returned travellers" and handballing the responsibility for quarantine to the States with their 'not fit for purpose' city hotels that's caused all this mess in the first place.

Quote:
In an indirect message to Mr McGowan, the Prime Minister said WA would eventually have to face the choice between staying closed to the rest of the world or living with the virus.

He said there would need to be a "gear change".

"You've got to be able to live with the virus at some point," Mr Morrison said.

We'll stay closed, thanks very much. And, the only thing we need to change is the Federal government which will hopefully happen next May. Or earlier with any luck.

Our health system is in a terrible mess.

My mother was rushed to hospital (RPH) in an ambulance twice last week, and both times it took over 4 hours before she was seen to - by anyone.

And, my father's nursing home is operating at about 50% of its normal staffing numbers.

I try to go in most days and help out with lunch just to give the nurses and carers a hand.

And don't get me started on Fiona Stanley Hospital - it's impossible to get a parking spot there, even for the staff, and their staffing levels are probably at about 60%.

It's a mess.

When Delta hits, we're gonna suffer real bad.

For his party, yes.

And I'm glad I did.  Not a single regret.

Can you imagine what the place would be like if that work experience kid from the corrupt Liberal Party was Premier?

But yes, I'm proud to say I voted for McGowan's Labor Party but I'm not silly enough to deny the fact that he has failed miserably with our hospitals.

First thing he should do is get rid of our useless health minister.

No, but he didn't even make an attempt.

He took his eye off the ball.

And the lies from the health minister are just unacceptable.

most health systems are trying to offer too much,

people over 80 require 10 x as much hospitalisation as people under 70.

and the number of people over 80 is going to quadruple in the next 15 years.

there is no hope of maintaining the ultra expensive, medicare gold experience in the future.

hospital spending is up 9 % year on year for the last decade but number of beds per head of population is down as more and more expensive technology and expensive drugs and expensive prosthesis are added.

so something has to give and it will probably be an inability to deal with end of life care.

hospitals will always have to look after kids and people injured in motor accidents and pregnant women.

but they will have to ration care to the elderly.

probably this will start with an order that nursing home patients cannot be treated in public hospitals.

covid could actually bring this on a bit early.

a really big outbreak of delta could see it impossible to move a patient from a nursing home to a public hospital.

if, for instance shepparton hospital is on 1/2 staff due to doctors and nurses being in quarantine and if the hospital is already full and then you add in covid, it would not be possible totransfer a patient from aged care if they developed an acute illness and they would not be able to be moved outside the area due to lockdowns.

either way, the days of everyone having access to an acute bed will probably go.

both thru delta and thru demographics and thru the economy suffering.

you cant have a healthy hospital system without a healthy economy and there is no cash to invest in new capacity when the feds are a trillion in debt and states are spending a fortune on testing , police, and are seeing revenues plummet

not a problem.

i would not want an acute bed to go to me if there was a young person who also required it.
i have had a good healthy life and lingering with ill health is not really a prospect i would want, whereas a young person may still have decades of great health after they are treated

Perth hospital staff missed opportunities to help girl who died of infection, investigation finds

Aishwarya was taken to the $1.2bn hospital with a fever and triaged by a nurse – who did not check her vital signs – in the second-least urgent category.

“The lack of a comprehensive triage, including a limited primary assessment of the patient … contributed in a delay in medical intervention,” the report found.

When assessed soon afterwards by another nurse – referred to as RN1 – her temperature of 38.8C did not prompt a sepsis investigation.

RN1 was then called to help with resuscitation of another patient, leaving one nurse – already covering for a colleague who had gone home sick – to watch over eight waiting room cubicles for half an hour as Aishwarya continued to deteriorate.

tragic.

they are obviously not concentrating resources on the most important cases.

one wonders how many unhealthy obese diabetics and smokers were clogging up the system and occupying staff to the point this child was ignored

Not many (if any) long-term smokers.

"Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) is Western Australia’s specialist paediatric hospital and trauma centre, providing medical care to children and adolescents 15 years of age or under."

Interestingly, when you go to their website this is the first thing you see:

"We are currently experiencing a very high number of Emergency Department patient presentations and long waiting times.

"Here's some information on when you should bring your child to the PCH Emergency Department or take them elsewhere."

Mark is a great Premier, but he buggered up bad with the hospitals.

He needs to fix this FAST!

The blokes been in 4 years.
That's more than enough time to fix systemic issues and if new hospitals are required, to at least have the plans well in the pipeline.

We have plenty of new hospitals.

Wonderful and shiny, with lots of machines that go "ping".

We don't have the staff to work in them - that's the main problem.
