I can't disagree with that comment.

I watch a lot of UK stuff esp comedy and I keep telling my family I enjoy watching these programs because it gives me so much information about how Aussies were back in the day and why some are like they are today. There's still this link btwn some Aussies and the English. It's their English ancestry. It still defines their look and their way of life. And I don't know that they're even aware of it.

I still think the best thing that ever happened to Australia was the rapid influx of European migrants in the 50's - 70's. It developed Australia economically and in terms of personality and character.

The influx did introduce literally new blood into Australia but there was something else - the American military forces during WWII woke Australia up (culturally) from its colonial slumber. I think Australia would have been quite dull pre-war.
