I do not know what the circumstances are in relation to this topic. However, you can be held accountable for what you write on a forum, even if you are not serious about what you are saying. There is only so much that a moderator can tolerate. If it gets to the point where threats of violence is being made against a poster, the moderator should step in and make sure that the offender is warned, muted and/or banned from the forum.

Forum rules are not law.

The complainant needs to demonstrate that they are in danger, which would be hard to prove unless the posters are known to each other in real life and have access to one another.

Or they would need to demonstrate reputational / economic damage, which is not possible when you're anonymous.

Also, you cannot use the same tone you claim you're threatened by and also admit that you amplify the issue by 'throwing rocks' or 'boulders' where 'stones' are thrown.

For a forum where the names are not used, there is still an issue regarding derogatory comments and comments made that would be deemed inappropriate under the law of the land. I do not know what sort of rules ozpolitic has in regards to age limits. But, if you use language inappropriate to people under the age of 16 years, it is deemed an offence. Yet, we have this sign in system where if a minor logs on to read what is posted, it is assumed that the minor has logged on under false pretences of being an adult.

Forum rules are not criminal code laws. But forum rules do not give people the right to break the law. Police can investigate the matter and gather evidence to prosecute a member. The only requirement that they need is a confession that the person wrote what they said. All the keystrokes can be logged from their computer. And if the person says that they are the only user of the computer, that can be enough to hold them entirely responsible.

Ahh, tell it all to the judge... It'd give the court a good laugh... And even the judiciary needs a little comic relief in these, our challenging times...

Grown adults, mostly middle-agers and beyond, getting all teenage angsty about swearing being involved (in line with their grandmother's sensibility) need to wonder whether it might be time to get severe covid and move on from this mortal coil on to a better place... Samoa is nice this time of year.

Christ she's a nutter.

She tried this once before with me. Claimed she went to a friend of hers who was a cop and filed a complaint against me ... told me to expect a knock on my door within an hour or two ... that was 4 or 5 years ago and I'm still waiting
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Well, you do move around a lot!

Shocked Shocked
I lived in Wollongong from birth until I was 39, and have been on the GC ever since.

for some reason she has it in her head I'm someone else she knows. Which is probably better for me, She can torment them all she wants.

Nobody LIVED in Wollongong - they existed there.... the copper was probably a junior under command of my uncle down there........ you'd have received a fair hanging..... as an Eyetie the odds were against your acquittal...

you do realise that wollongong has more than one copper right? Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Coppers are not interested in some immature squabble on an internet board.

They would be interested, if a member is flagged on police records.

Flagged? Not the way it works irl. Coppers cannot access databases at random to start with and secondly, police databases do not necessarily have complete criminal records of every individual, there is no master database like you see on CSI. Quite often police have to ask other jurisdictions if they want to know if someone has a previous criminal record and that can take a while and a lot of resources and like I said, they will not be interested in  some petty squabble on a random internet board. Theres millions of those going on and they arent going to waste resources on this crud.

No, incorrect. Public profanity is an offence, rarely prosecuted and does not relate to the age of the person within hearing distance.

You need to stop confusing schlock horror / film noir movies with real life.

You might be complacent about what you say online. But, the police would not hesitate to prosecute you for any criminal activity you commit. It does not matter if you are using a pseudonym, the police will trace you and find out who you are. Your only defence is to deny ever having committed the crime. A claim of "I wrote that, but it does not mean anything" will not grant you an excuse.

I am not worried about swearing online. The moderators seem to have this forum checked for heavy handed swearing, anyway. The bigger picture is having to deal with activities where you are inciting violence against another person.

You need to grow psychologically commensurate with your biology.

No one here is advocating for crime, unless swearing and blasphemy are crimes to you and your closed brethren.

Come to think of it, what does the word crime mean to you? Can you give examples of crimes discussed here?

I'm guessing you're not a teenager...
