Does anyone here still believe in the power of prayer?

Am I the only person left on this seriously God forsaken website who still believes in praying for our families, friends and each other?

I'll pray for a million dollars.

I would argue that most religious people DO believe in an interventionist God. It is the whole reason for this thread.

There are those that "pray" and "give thanks" on the sporting field at key points of a game.

This always raises the question of what sort of God allows children to die, be tortured and raped, yet intervenes to allow some sports person to kick a goal or score a century.

It truly is a case of cognitive dissonance

I believe in an interventionist God.

An interventionist God, that is MY God.     .....i have a guardian angel.

And, [in this PRE-judgement era] my God honours my own choices.
[e.g. i can freely love God, or, i can choose to hate, God the creator]

And if we choose, to show, that we really, really hate God, the creator [in our choices],
the loving God will honour the choices of his creation.
....its called, having FREE WILL [to act against our own interests].

There is the wickedness of individuals, in this world.

And our choices, will bring our choices, back upon us.

Isn't that, in accord, with 'scientific principles' ?

.

But what about innocent people [suffering] ?

We live, in an [almost] instant karma world.

Don't we ?

e.g.
Children with cancer, and the many other general sicknesses which people suffer from.

Deuteronomy 7:12
Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
13  And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
14  Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
15  And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Deuteronomy 28:58
If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;
59  Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.
60  Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.
61  Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
62  And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God.
63  And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.
64  And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
65  And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
66  And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
67  In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

.

QUESTION;
How can/does an individual plainly demonstrate [in his choices], that he hates God ?

Whoooo !  That is a really, really difficult one, isn't it !
/sarc off

.

Never old.

Why hasn't he intervened? Islam runs rampant, his following shrinks by the day in enlightened societies as science explains the inexplicable. He can't even keep his enemies in check. I suspect your god has no power outside your mind.

I told you, this time, it is appointed for men to make choices and mistakes.

Letting wickedest of men have their way [PRE-judgement], it is all part of God's cunning plan.       Wink

Revelation 22:11
He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
12  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Setanta,

Are you just looking forward to all of that peaceful time, that you will have, to look up at that coffin lid ?

Or are you going to the ashes ?

See, i believe in something different.

Hebrews 9:27
......it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Setanta,

I'm happy for you to believe whatever you want to believe.

So no intervention then.

Well, i've seen his intervention in my life.

He [His spirit] has kept my safe, throughout my life, even when i've done some very 'careless' things, or been in some perilous situ's.

But now, day, to day, it is 'pretty quiet'.

And no, i haven't seen any great lightening bolts, smiting the wicked [....not yet].

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Scripture [God's own WORD ! ] says that HE is a God who hides himself, but also, that he will aid those who love him.

2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.....

Isaiah 45:15
Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
16  They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.
17  But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.
18  For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
19  I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

In scripture, God throws down a challenge to every one us, and says to test Him, if he is a faithful God.

If you are lost, and depressed, about what is going on in YOUR OWN life.....then pray to Him.

Ask Him !!, for help.     .....but with your penitent heart.

Isaiah 55:6
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

That, seems like a pretty good deal to me !!

Test Him.....

Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

If you love the world, love what the world gives to you,
you are one of those persons, who will never deign to seek God.

It is the truth.

2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
