Aussie,
you love to over simplify anything to score a cheap political point.

France knew that Australia was unhappy with the sub deal for years.
The costs were piling up and we kept getting words but no action.

However - Australia is partially to blame -
we should have gone straight for the nuclear French subs
which were offered to us.

Instead we wanted a Frankenstein version with diesel engines
that couldn't do the job we needed.

It's just like the Seasprite helicopter -
another disaster that wasted $billions and ended up with nothing.
The Australian Govt. has been shown to be
incompetent for the last 50 years when
dealing with military purchases.

At the time this was not an option. The French would probably have been happy to sell SSNs to us, but the political climate would not have allowed it. Now however, the Chinese problem has changed the game considerably and the unprecedented decision by the US to allow the nuclear technology transfer has made SSNs a reality for the RAN.

Yep. The context has changed dramatically.

I think Scomo was placed in a difficult position by changing global circumstances. I seriously wish that Malcolm Turnbull had not proceeded with said deal in the first place. Essentially Scomo was expected to reverse his predecessor's poor decision which seemed a goer at the time.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess.

Morrison is an absolute disgrace.

Anyone who defends him should hang their (empty) head in shame.

And, let's not forget: he was sacked from his last job for theft & fraud.

Yes Bobby. Isn't it terrible when a person who is meant to be in charge ....is in fact beholden to others. Said others who feel they should call the shots as they see fit.

It was always an option to have nuclear powered subs.
Diesel ones go back to WW1 - just old technology.
They would never survive in a real war when they
would have to put a snorkel up every day or 2
for a long time to get air to run the motors to
recharge the batteries.
They would be found and destroyed.
It would be a suicide mission.
How could you expect anyone to work inside one of them?
They have always had a lot of trouble finding recruits.

Diesel subs go back to before WW1.

Nuclear subs go back to 1955.

What gets me is that France itself uses nuclear subs. But its antiquated diesel subs were going to be offloaded to Australia. Thank God that stupid deal has been axed!

Morriscum lied and is continuing to lie.

But NO ONE should be surprised by this stage. Morriscum hasn't stopped lying since he won office. If you've failed to see it the fault is yours not his.

True.

That doesn't change the fact that Morrison was sacked from his last job for theft & fraud though.

There was no offloading - they were to be built from scratch.

Makes one wonder but yes it appears that you're right.

This is an interesting read.

Blah blah bloody blah.

I did not start the Thread to discuss the pros and cons of the sub.  This is about an arsehole bare faced lying to Australia, and it seems to the President of France.  The latter is not yet established as proven. The former is.

Morrison looked down the lens of the camera and told us that Macron had sledged Australia and Australians.  Macron did not.  It is a simple as that.  In fact, the opposite was the case.

Morrison is now a proven lying arsehole and thinks that people will buy his garbage.  It seems some in this Thread are at least favourably eyeing in his mendacious trash.

It's like the alleged belief of Humpty's that he could walk down the main street of New York shooting people and the idiots of the Planet would find some excuse for him.

Morrison is a now a proven lying scum bag.  Is anyone going to argue that  point?

Aussie,
you're a simpleton - all politicians are professional liars.
When is the last time ScoMo ever answered a question in parliament?
If you ask him a question about the Libbos he talks about Labor's record.
It's all a complete farce and has always been like that.
I have lost faith in our political system.

We live in a one party communist state with 2 branches:
Labor and Liberal.
Their policies are basically the same.

Recently due to Covid we were less free
than the people in North Korea.
