Greg, I don't know about Carnarvon but a couple of people I know here in Perth who live in Department of Communities (Housing Authority) places have told me the Department doesn't have spare keys which probably explains why they have door locks fitted that make it impossible to lock the keys inside (you have to lock the door with the key when you go out).

That's cool - no spare keys then.

But seriously, how easy would it be to get inside an old weatherboard house in Carnarvon?

There wouldn't be any need to "force down the door".

Especially when you know she's in there on her own - the noise would scare her, and that's the last thing you'd want to do.

The only reason they'd need to "force down the door" is if they knew the abductor was inside and they had to act fast.

I'm finding it a little hard to believe that the 140 officers working around the clock couldn't figure out that she was in the house alone.

A lot not adding up.

But, the most important thing is she's safe and for that the coppers deserve high praise.

Come on, tujdy, come out with what you are really thinking  - Trump told the coppers what to do.  Tsk, tsk  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

No, he's speaking from personal experience. They have not rescued him from his mum's basement he locked himself in and he's sure they are not even looking for him.

Why did 140 officers working around the clock for 18 days not know that she was alone in the house?

It wasn't a tip off - it was all down to detective work.

They figured out who they guy was, they figured out where he lived, but they couldn't figure out if he was home or not.

It doesn't add up.

It may be a deliberate tactic, not to give us all the correct information, as they may be looking for an accomplice or something else - we don't know.

They deserve high praise for getting her home, and I hope they were all paid triple-time for their efforts, but there's no need to "force down the door" of an old weatherboard house in Carnarvon when the only person inside is a 4-year-old girl.

Again, I'm not putting poo on the cops. They rescued her, and that's good no matter how you look at it. They deserve praise.

However, if this wasn't from a tip-off but instead the good detective work of 140 officers, why did they need to force down the door?

How come they didn't know he wasn't home?

Why didn't they just pick the lock and walk in calmly?

Or get the spare keys from the housing authority office?

What sort of solid, heavy-duty security door this this state government housing authority home actually have?

Again, full marks to the coppers - they got the girl, and that's all that matters, but I think they might be getting a little dramatic with the rescue description.

She was alone inside and old weatherboard state-housing home, and they walked in and retrieved her.

Dear God!

That's just standard protocol. You conduct a raid because you don't know who or what is behind a door or in a house.

140 officers working on the case, and they didn't know she was in the house alone?

I wouldn't call that brilliant police work.

But, as I've said many times - the police still deserve high praise.

They returned the girl to her family, and that's all that matters.

So much dancing... Carnarvon is cyclone country, the houses are brick or at least build to cyclonic conditions, there goes your excuse. The rest is just more dancing around apologising for a stupid comment you made.

Like I say though, they might be deliberately deceiving us in the interests of the case.

Plus, I haven't actually heard a police officer say they "forced down the door" - I've only seen it in news reports and heard dickhead news reporters say it (one on the ABC did it just minutes ago: "The police busted down the door").

Maybe they're the ones being a bit too dramatic.

Maybe the police did know she was in there alone, and maybe they did simply pick the old Lockwood lock and walk calmly inside.

Anyway, I hope they're paid triple-time and given plenty of TOIL.

She's home safe, and that's all that matters.

uh , no. Not standard procedure, standard procedure is to create a SMEAC and act in accordance with that. Peccas right, these coppers are grandstanding.

I used to weld steel frames for cyclone resistant prefabs for up north, the housing needed to meet regulation. There are probably weatherboard houses/buildings up there as Gregg said but they would not be housing. I suppose in that case the cops should have just gone straight through the wall.

I think you will find  those old state housing  abodes are all fibro. Like Pt Hedland , South Hedland the old area all old fibro, the newer areas cyclone proof.
