Joyce's Ulysses is 100 years old.

Evelyn Waugh, an infinitely greater writer,  nailed it:

James Joyce, that “poor, dotty Irishman,” is a producer of “great rot.”

I would say that Ulysses is a book that is based on 'a lot' of 'complicated' writing put together to appear more sophisticated than it really is.
Plus, it was all that Ireland had to offer.
It really should have been just 100 pages long.
Definitely a case example that goes against the 'keep it simple stupid' sell.

AIMLESS EXTENTION OF KNOWLEDGE HOWEVER, WHICH IS WHAT I THINK YOU REALLY MEAN BY THE TERM 'CURIOSITY', IS MERELY INEFFICIENCY. I AM DESIGNED TO AVOID INEFFICIENCY.

Middlemarch is a masterpiece. Søren was a genius.

I collected my books for either cheap, or free. Just cost me 1/10th the tank of fuel.
