The Holocaust was about the Nazis attributing the loss of World War One to groups of people, including Jewish people, for bringing the war to an end in the favour of the Allies. For the Jewish people, they were put as part of the problem in the Nazis not being able to achieve their goals. That is why they were either forced out of German-controlled lands, or collected as part of work slaves for the war effort.

Unfortunately, there are people these days that want to piggy-back on the suffering of those that went through the Holocaust horrors. "Fire Whoopi Goldberg" some might say. "Oh, I am Jewish and do not need to hear about what my grandparents went through being trivialised".

I hear it less and less these days. But there are those that are in their 70s and 80s who claim to have remembered a horrific event of something that predated their births (or even the first few years of their lives). I certainly feel sympathy for those that survived the horrors of concentration camps. But you should not try and claim victimhood for something you either never experienced or were too young to have a memory of such events.

I was just wondering, over the past few days, why on god's earth it is 'necessary' to offer affirmative action to immigrants and their offspring................ considering that to BE an immigrant you must be self-sustaining and have a few lazy large lying about......... I can understand the difference for refugees and their early offspring.......... but it seems to me the entire structure of affirmative action and preferential treatment to get them up to speed here is flawed........... one person's meat being another person's poison......... it seems pretty clear that offering preferential treatment to immigrants and offspring is destroying equal opportunity for Established Australians.... who are forced to sit at the back of the bus like the New Niqqers they are in reality......... that Poor Boy from the Houso District has no chance of a job in the PS, let alone of prospering there, no matter how talented and hard-working he is....

The tinteds have their place... they are mostly supposed to be able to make it under their own steam, or they do not gain entry as immigrants.... so YTF do they, like the whining sheilas, continue to get preferential treatment in government employment, education opportunities and so forth???

Maybe they all should try it on a genuine level playing field for the first time in forty years or more..... make their own way like that boy from houso who probably didn't even get fed properly...

Something is fatally flawed in our immigration policy and all that follows.....

I - like most Established Australians - don't identify myself as anything..... just myself..... and part of the deal is that I and all other Established Australians get the same 'fair go' as everyone else does these days.... preferential treatment for all EQUALLY ... always was and always will be the fatal flaw in affirmative action.... there is zero equality in affirmative action....... just prejudice, bias and preference...

I, for one, have German Jewish ancestry

(though I don't identify with it or anything else for that matter)

- there are NO survivors of that name in Hamburg.... I've checked.

Not surprising that you'd imagine that you've arrived at a sense of equity by yourself, you're not part of, or don't identify as, a minority.

This is something that African-Americans can never know.

Alex Haley ('Roots') made claims that his family had transcended the transatlantic-annihilation of cultural / ethnic identity, but it was later discovered that he had used, let's say, poetic licence in his biography of his African-descent family.

In fact no African-American can prove or lay claim to any African identity other than skin colour indicating they are descended from some people somewhere in Africa.

This fact has skewed the world's race debate and racial identity, along simplistic lines due to its being borne by all-pervasive American culture / soft power.

There was much more to it. You cannot simplify it to that single event. For example, Elijah was critical of Malcolm's militancy. It was a long brewing battle.

No doubt true. I was taking it from a comment one of his daughters made in an interview where she was discussing Malcolm X's improved relationship with Martin Luther King after his Haj.

I think he is close to the mark. I see it obvious that a lot of black Americans have a skewed view on race as an international topic. This comes from 250 years of persecution and disadvantage. They cannot help but to look at race through their own filter.

Yes. And having no other race/ethno-specific identity from their African lineage, they are left with only one: colour.
