Some kinds of "othering" are encouraged by aspects of society, others are not. And you are free to pick your own aspect.

Ive had three kids.
And i have seen this in action.

One man, a neighbour ( now gone)
When he came around, the kids dissapeared.
However with other visitors they all came out to talk and show off.

We found out later he was a sex offender.
Kids seem to know.
They are more perceptive than us.

Yes. It's likely that primal instincts towards danger and outgroup identification in children are at their maximum in childhood, given their incapacity to defend themselves from danger.
