So all this homegrown to catch one cheat?

Why the obsession?

We're primates, cheating is in our DNA.

I was not trying to catch a cheat.  I thought I'd try your idea with a refinement.

Dunno about anyone else, but I sure am not cheating.

Frank, do you reckon anyone is cheating?  Using an aid?

You were.

I sure was not, and I still do not.  I have specifically told people I do not want to know about cheat sites.

Have you been using an aid, Frank?

Have you been suing an aid, Frank?

You could try using the most obscure 5-letter words in the English language. That might raise the average from 3.5 to 5.5.

But I don't know how much that will achieve, apart from serving your own ego, and without the risk of proving your own prowess by necessarily having to exclude yourself from competing.

Lucky. This is the most iffy configuration, when you get the first three letters early and there are more words starting that way then you have shots left.

Re cheating: it is an elimination game. You eliminate the most frequent letters quickly and rule out/in positions for them. Then you look at what's left and be mindful of the common consonant and vowel clusters (th, gh, tr, ee ea ou etc).
Use intuition for the starting word, something that first pops into your head when you think of Worlde. There is no room for cheating, unless you play on two devices - but who can bother with that. In any case it would take more effort to pretend than to solve it straight. it is a simple and clever little mental exercise with the morning coffee.

Wordle is great as a solo game. There are too many ways to cheat for it to be played competitively.

A great short daily quiz is quizwise (https://www.quizwise.com/).

Seven questions per day on:

Geography - Geographical locations around the world.
History - A mixture of modern and ancient history.
People - Famous & infamous people and their achievements.
Science - Questions related to all the sciences.
Entertainment - Television, books and other forms of popular entertainment.
Sports - A broad range of sports and leisure-related activities.
Wildcard - This could be anything, including questions that don't neatly fit other categories.
