+ Interesting Maths Questions +
Mar 31st, 2022 at 10:34pm

I'm hoping this topic will catch the attention of a few mathematicians on OzPol.

My question :

If ....

1! = 1

2! = 2

3! = 6

4! = 24

Then how is it that 0! = 1?

Because you're multiplying diagonally down and left.

If you are multiplying down and left, you would still end up with 0 as the answer. ie., 0 x 1 = 0.

This would fit above the top line 0! = 1.

The formula would take the 1 from here and multiply it with the left hand 1 from the left of the below line 1!=1 (1X1= 1)

0! =
1

1
! = 1

2! = 2

3! = 6

4! = 24

0! = 1 by definition

Or you can consider it meaning there is only one way to arrange a set with no members.

Yes!!! You're right! Ohhh now that took me back to my days where I couldn't put down my Advanced Maths textbooks lol.

Do you believe I still find myself waking up of a morning having had dreams of sitting in Pure Maths lectures at Uni ? I miss those days ....I felt so alive because my brain was constantly being amazed and challenged.
