Surely it's past the time in an enlightened, civilised 21st century to ban this
brutal, barbarous, so-called "sport" that has its roots in the ignorance of
ancient history.

Is this the sort of image that a bloodthirsty population really want to see?

        ...

Two grown (?) men covered in blood and open cuts all mixed with sweat and drool?

With an onlooking audience of screaming, blood-lusting simpletons
screaming their lungs out in a wave of collective obsessional behaviour.

Does it encourage our kids and youth to respect others and to avoid
settling arguments with physical violence?  Why is it that giving another
man or woman a deliberate concussion even considered a "sport"?  If
you or I do that in the street, then we'll be charged with assault—or
even manslaughter, if that concussion proves to be fatal.

Or is it an encouraging catalyst—to be a "real" man—and to kill people
on the streets with one single punch?  Or to beat up aged citizens in
their own homes.  Or punch the lights out of someone who cut you off in
your car?   "Monkey see... monkey do"?  Violence breeds violence.

And what about Gerald McClellan, knocked into an eleven-day coma, and
is  now blind, cannot walk unassisted, and is 80 percent deaf. Or Mike Towell,
Tim Hague, Pedro Alcázar and last year Kazuki Anaguchi and Kenneth Egano
—now all dead due to being assaulted in the squared circle.

Since 2000, not one year has passed without the death of at least one
professional boxer.  In total 43 young men's lives lost during that period.

I'd be interested to see what others here—boxing supporters—have to
say in defence of these needless long-term injuries and killings.  Do you
condone them?  Would you like to see the rules of boxing modified?

Does anyone agree with my call to ban boxing?

    Cool

It's absolutely no different to Elections, Wars and other 'confrontations' in life. No different!
Death is a part of everything. There is no escape from its part in life.
Are you one of those fruitloops that think you can get rid of death entirely and become 'immortal'?
If so - you'll bring about the death of humanity as a whole.

I do like boxing, did not see this fight.
However, I agree with what you say.
It encourages a behaviour we do not want in society, indeed we want not.
You raise a good point.

You both sound like the type of people who need to 'de-humanise' things for your own protection.
Like a soldier who can't cope with looking the enemy in they eye before confrontation - rather send in a drone from a far safe distance of anonymity and turn the screen off when it hits its target.
You both like your beef in a tin, rather than have to go out and cut the pieces yourself.

You both probably ran like cowards from guys who were 'physically' tougher than you.
You both ran because you didn't want to lose if you fought back.

I've lost many a fight against a 'Bully'. But I never had to run each time, nor did the Bullies ever come back for more.

You're both 'runners'.  Grin

They said on TV today that fight should have been stopped earlier.
Tszyu couldn't see properly due to all the blood.
I think the doctor and the Ref are under scrutiny now.

Tim Tszyu rejigs plans for world title fight after losing 'bloodbath' against Sebastian Fundora

Posted 4h ago

In short: Tim Tszyu lost a split decision to Sebastian Fundora after a stray elbow in the second round of their fight left him bloodied and almost blind in one eye.
Tszyu described the fight as a "bloodbath", and was gracious after suffering his first loss in 25 fights.
What's next? Tszyu's team is angling for a clash with Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr, or a rematch with Fundora.

Tim Tszyu might be down but he is far from out, although his plans to become a boxing big dog will have to take a different route after his points loss to Sebastian Fundora on Sunday.

Tszyu entered his Las Vegas super-welterweight unification world title fight against Fundora as one of the hottest properties in the sport, but a stray elbow from his 197-centimetre opponent left him with a gaping head wound late in the second round.

It left him unable to see clearly for 10 rounds and scuppered his plans to emulate his father Kostya as a unified world champion.

The 29-year-old described the fight as a "bloodbath" on social media, and he took the split-decision loss — his first defeat in 25 fights — graciously despite the unfortunate circumstances.

If so - you'll bring about the death of humanity as a whole.

Well JaSin, I think you've posted a couple of the silliest
comments I've seen here for a while—and neither actually
addresses the incidents of injury and death caused by boxing.
You simply seem to have posted some little pet rant of you're
own that's totally irrelevant to the topic.  Dunno.

Unless you're telepathic and/or clairvoyant JaSin, you
don't know me, and you don't know Sprint either.

This part of your post gave me a good belly-laugh though!

"I've lost many a fight against a 'Bully'. But I never had to

I guess that's given you most of your experience as an
undefeated (LOL) keyboard warrior these days?

BTW, I don't think I've ever seen such a bizarre load of bullshit
as you've posted in that second comment about soldiers and
cowardice.

Can I ask if you've ever seen active service in the military JaSin?

A simple 'yes' or 'no' will suffice.     Cool

Hey, I'm just going off how you word things.
I think you've even got me mixed up somehow in the "Where's (Wally) Aussie?" topic started by Monk.

I watched a Boxing night where an Australian Boxer got off his stool, fell forward and died that night from a blood clot to the head. The poor visiting Russian fighter kinda quit boxing after that and had to find another way to feed his family.

When I see people whine about the violence of some Sports and other facets of Human existence - I wonder if they could provide these people another source of 'income'? A source of income that could reward them with 'millions' in dollars?
And why stop there - what about the violence of 'WARFARE' and all things Military? Do you agree that Military Training should contain violence in both physical and mental abuse?

So c'mon. Besides just doing 2-bit whines about the violence of this and that - just start with condemning your beloved ANZACS first and their 'mercenary' acts of killing other people in their own countries for America, first.  Wink

Again JaSin...

You seem to know a lot about the military and the actions of
soldiers under duress.  And you suggest—with no evidence—
that I may be a "coward" or a "runner".  That's a pretty serious
claim to make in public mate, particularly from the perspective
of a keyboard warrior.

I'll ask you again:

I saw too much of it in the Ukraine.
Sure, it was 'indirectly', but having buildings collapse next to me and feeling the 'thump' of explosions in the unseeable distance was close enough.
Worst of all, seeing what warfare does to people's behaviours, well - it was just savage to see.
I put it right up there with being right in the middle of a Covid infected crowd in Melbourne during the peak infection period.
Just don't want to be there.

No - I'd use Judo on him -

flip him on to the floor and put him in an arm lock until he said -

Bobby - I give up - don't hurt me.
