Yes, I agree; nothing beats home-made chips.
I deep fry mine in sunflower oil.
McDonald's "Famous" French Fries (which are actually
Belgian, but the stupid American GIs thought because
most Belgians spoke French they mistook them for French
nationals... duh).
So...

hydrogenated soybean oil, natural
beef flavour

sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain colour), salt.
*natural beef flavour contains
hydrolysed wheat and
hydrolysed milk as starting ingredients.
—Hydrogenation is a process where manufacturers
add hydrogen to a liquid fat, such as vegetable oil, to
turn it into a solid fat at room temperature.
—Hydrolysed wheat is used in body lotions and shampoos.
—Sodium acid pyrophosphate should be avoided by
persons with kidney disease.
