Ultra-processed food (UPF) is directly linked to 32 harmful effects to health, including a higher risk of heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, adverse mental health and early death, according to the world’s largest review of its kind.

The findings from the first comprehensive umbrella review of evidence come amid rapidly rising global consumption of UPF such as cereals, protein bars, fizzy drinks, ready meals and fast food.

In the UK and US, more than half the average diet now consists of ultra-processed food. For some, especially people who are younger, poorer or from disadvantaged areas, a diet comprising as much as 80% UPF is typical.

The findings published in the BMJ suggest diets high in UPF may be harmful to many elements of health. The results of the review involving almost 10 million people underscored a need for measures to target and reduce exposure to UPF, the researchers said.

Go to any supermarket -
every food isle is full of products containing large amounts of: fat, sugar and salt.
That includes breakfast cereals.
It's hard to find any unprocessed food except in the fresh vege section.

Every time I go to the supermarket I see morbidly obese people with supermarket trolleys
loaded up sky high with junk food.

I signed up for the MyMaccas app. The navigation of that app is a nightmare. Trying to find out where to put the code for my coupon. After 10 minutes of mucking around, I gave up. They can stick it.

In fact, I am not going back to Maccas anymore.

TV doco says dolphins are dying from chemicals in the food chain, 100 times the limit. They are disposed as toxic waste. Poms live on fish n chips but it's unfair to call them toxic waste.

Don't tell me that - I love fish and chips but
I limit it to once per month.

It named PVC in sea-water causing dolphin infertility. 'PVC result: severe health problems, including cancer, immune system damage, and hormone disruption. No one can escape contamination: Everyone, everywhere has measurable levels of chlorinated toxins in their bodies.'  'Vinyl is commonly used as a shorthand name for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic as used in a range of products from flooring to siding to wall covering'.

' The VCA's biennial PVC AUS Conference will take place on the Gold Coast in June 2024 and will once again bring the entire PVC industry together'.

I dunno whether or not I posted this link to the Australian McDonald's
foods ingredients listing, is here it is (maybe) again...

https://mcdonalds.com.au/sites/mcdonalds.com.au/files/Core%20Food%20Menu_Septemb...

The only time I've entered a McDonald's has been to use their toilets
in Traralgon or Sale (Victoria) —that is until somebody set fire to both
outlets two or three years ago LOL.

Another couple of unhappy customers?     Grin

Those additives are standard in anything. Beef patties are made of beef, they say. Lettuce from lettuce. Profits are derived from empty stomachs.

I could go through my refridgerator and have a fridge full of what I would think is a healthy arrangement. People like Bojack Horseman would claim that I have an unhealthy diet simply because of the range of foodstuff with sugar or carbs in them.

The Big Macs, fries and drinks are loaded with sugar. Unless you are eating rabbit food, you are not eating healthy.

The amount of fat, carbs, and other sugars found in a Big Mac meal would make any other non-fast food meal seem healthy by comparison. Yes, you can find sugars in the apples you eat. But, I bet those apples contain a lot more vitamin c and other fibres that you don't get out of any item on the McDonalds menu.

Chips are what they are.
Cane sugar juice has no vitamin C and makes the burger sloppy.
There is 4.6 mg Vitamin C in your apple.
9.6mg Vit C in lettuce, and in 1/6 lettuce of 50g, 1.6mg Vit C.
Daily Double burger has shredded lettuce, two juicy slices of tomato. Medium tomato has 20mg so two slices is 10mg Vit C.
4.6 apple : 11.6 burger.

There are 5.51 million Scottish survivors.
