(Copied over from Bobby's "Australia and NZ numbers for today:" thread) As if we don't have enough SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) to worry about here in Australia, here comes MONKEYPOX!!!
Australian 'monkeypox' alert with concerns the deadly virus could enter the country through international travellers Quote:Australian health authorities are on high alert over fears a global outbreak of deadly Monkeypox could arrive Down Under after the UK was rocked by a string of cases.
One in ten of those infected dies from the rare African-originated disease which leaves victims pockmarked with painful, ugly blisters and rashes over their body.
It's highly infectious between people in close proximity but can only be spread through bodily fluids or very close face-to-face contact in droplets of breath.
Let's look at that again.

We kept getting told the same thing about SARS-CoV-2 two years ago even though a lot of scientists and doctors knew it was airborne. What's the bet that the same thing will happen with 'Monkeypox'?
Of course, by the time the Australian government (whether it's Liberal or Labor) tries to do anything to stop this entering Australia it will be too late. As usual.
It's already spreading via international travellers just like what happened with SARS-CoV-2 (and the flu, of course).

Let's hope so. But, I'd rather not have this thing getting into Australia to start with.
But, if/when it does arrive here what's the bet we all get told by governments (Federal and State) that its' "mild"?
