A Covid 19 voting mess
May 19th, 2022 at 4:06pm

If you test positive for Covid-19 between Saturday 14th and Tuesday 17th at 6 pm, you will NOT be allowed to vote, unless you have already got a postal vote or already voted early.

* You must isolate for 7 days. No voting in person.
* Phone voting is available only for people who tested positive after 6 pm on Tuesday 17th.
* Postal vote applications closed on Wednesday 18th.

So there was a small window where postal votes could still be obtained, but one day is not enough.

Someone clearly didn't think this through when writing the legislation.

Yeah, this is a pretty weird anomaly and could actually swing the election if things are close.

I had thought a while ago that Labor would win this thing easily, then I thought they would win in their own right but not by a huge margin. Now, I think things could be close, we might not know the result for a week or so.

The 2025 election could be a shocker.

Election rules to change to ensure all Australians with COVID can vote

Good. However, it should not have taken until the day before the election for this oversight to be sorted out.

You can make your vote by phone, if you cannot make it to the polling booths. There are also absentee votes that can be made. FFS.

I was told this when I was handing out how to vote and I see people saying it's not accurate.....
