Highland Park shooting: Man arrested after 4 July mass shooting

US police have taken a man into custody after six people were killed at an Independence Day parade near Chicago.

Police say Robert E Crimo III, aged 22, was arrested after a brief chase.

At least 24 other people were injured in the city of Highland Park after a gunman used a high-powered rifle to target people from a rooftop.

It is the latest mass shooting to hit the US - there has been one in every week of 2022.

I thought it was MUCH more frequent than that.

Indeed.

This is week 27.

So far, there have been 313 mass shootings in the US this year.

That's 11 per week.

That's part of our Second Amendment right." Personally, I think that's ludicrous, but it has become an increasingly popular justification for purchasing a semi-automatic rifle."

The 2nd amendment is an amendment.
The constitution can be amended, it has been a lot in the past.
Amend it again.

Americans are really going to need to pull a rabbit of a hat - if they're to avoid a future somewhere between RoboCop and The Terminator. A future where drones and robots attempt to police the chaos and the rich travel between their highly secure gated communities, in heavily armored convoys - with guns a blazin'.

Something like a Wild West replay, with the poor as the Indians!

It only needs interpreting, Sprint, just as the Supreme Court just did.

Of course states like New York can legislate restrictions on carrying guns around. Guns are banned in the Supreme Court, in the Capitol, and yes, even at presidential insurrections.

the guns arent the root of the problem.

the root of the problem is that americans have become nihilistic and lost.

they bounce out of bed with no positive aim, no direction in life.

they have outsourced most of their manufacturing so rich corps can make a bit more cash.

the chodes have been told that just being 'stimulated" by sugar, salt, fat, porn, disney land, hollywood ,nintendos, oxy, coke , alcohol and   outrage on social media will construct for them a "happy life"

nothing could be further from the truth

the lack of adversity and the addiction to momentary pleasures leaves them desperate and chaotic.

and that manifests as a will to destruction.

You use a different nonsense excuse for each massacre.

Yes guns are 100% the root of the problem.

nihilistic NO

It's the guns silly.

All these things happen everywhere and no place else has this problem in these numbers.

Tell me about the Disney connection ? Is it Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck or Snow White responsible ???

No No don't tell me - I am still laughing about the Green M&M's shoes.

More massacres sponsored by America's Republican party.

Politicians in desperate need of some spine.

The Republican party have closed their eyes, taken the gun lobby's money and refused to take any sensible action for that long now that they must be considered to be culpable and accessory to each and every mass shooting.

The Republican party are actively ensuring (and have done so for several decades) that mass shooters have the guns that they need for the act, they are effectively accessory to the shootings, accessory before the act.

Of course it's not the guns IN THEMSELVES. Cannot be. Otherwise mass shootings would be daily occurrences in every military around the world since the military in every country is the place with most guns.
But it is not the militaries. Not even the militias, as in Swiss.

The United States Constitution, in the last 230+ years, has only been amended 17 times (the 1st 10 amendments...the Bill of Rights.....were ratified all at once in 1791).

None of the First 10 'Amendments' were ever amended/changed/attempted to be changed......they are the Bill of Rights.....the Rights of the People.

I'd love the democ-rats to attempt to amend any of the Rights of the People......they'd be history if they ever did.... Grin
