I agree with the OP. There is a bogus history of the Aboriginals being disseminated in the media which portrays pre-contact natives as if their culture was on par with the North Americans, Papuans or Zulu. They were cavemen. Now they are regurgitating of the old noble savage theory. As for the "elders" who are supposed to be so spiritual, they are just people, no more knowledgeable than anyone else. And while the Melanesians of the Torres Strait are all lovey dovey with Aboriginal Australians today, they were mortal enemies before before the missionaries arrived.
