My son is 16, his generation is rejecting yours.
They have had a gutful of that self absorbed preening.
They are rip roaring all Wild West when it comes to human opinions.
I love them.
If teenagers—as you claim with a too broad brush—
are "rejecting" the knowledge
and inherent worldly wisdom of the baby boomer generation, then they do so
to their own detriment as future adults.
In fact it's been acknowledged that today's youth demographic is one of the most
self-absorbed and self-entitled in the last thirty years...
Quote:Psychologist Jean Twenge has labeled the current generation of young people the
"iGeneration," or "Generation Me". In her books she describes how young people
today "take it for granted that the self comes first," and has labeled this time a
"narcissism epidemic," stating that we are "living in the age of entitlement."
*Konrath and O'Brien link the self-absorption and lack of empathy together, calling
the current generation "one of the most self-centered, narcissistic, competitive,
confident and individualistic in recent history... It's not surprising that this growing
emphasis on the self is accompanied by a corresponding devaluing of others."
—Jean M. Twenge, Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University, is the author
of more than 150 scientific publications and 6 books, including
iGen: Why Today’s
Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy,
and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood.
