each considered to be incapable of bringing up their child? And bear in mind
that in the 1960s it was still considered shameful for an unmarried woman to
have a baby. Society has changed a lot (for the better) during the past 50 years.

It wasn't made clear what their background situations were when they became
pregnant, EG: were they financially secure, sufficiently mature and emotionally stable?

'hysteria' was still a diagnosis. They were single and had a root that got them pregnant
