Kat's Health Issues - Again.
Jul 18th, 2022 at 3:56pm

Well, I had a bit of a relapse with my COPD, sadly.

Lost all my oxygen and my pulse was 130 bpm, early on Friday morning.

Spent since then in hospital, got home this afternoon.

Some changes to medication, and a few tests to be done, but I am feeling much better at present.

No, according to the doc I'll be OK without it at present, at least.

O2 sats are usually good, but an infection saw it plunge, and my heart rate went ballistic.

Hey Kat, hope you're doing okay and get much better soon.

The exact same thing happened to my mother last week.

She's back home now, after spending a few days in hospital, but was still having breathing difficulties this morning.

Good Luck Kat - Stay well.

My wife has had palpitations since she was young, I clocked her at over 200 BPM when she was maybe 16. It always stopped before we could get to a Dr so they didn't believe it. Later in life she has needed to have a heart restart to stop it a few times. The pits apparently.

Best wishes, old goose, I am sorry I can't offer anything more useful.

Scary stuff Kat.  Hope everything's okay now.    Smiley

(I have an oximeter at home as I suffer from
mild emphysema after 30 years of smoking.)

Yes, that's basically my problem, exacerbated by working in heavy industry and construction.

Sadly, by the time it got bad enough for me to seek help, it had also damaged my heart as well.

I did stop smoking a long time ago (10 years).

Stop smoking is key! Dad didn’t really stop until far too late. (He died aged just 71.)

I gave up in the mid 1990s sometime, fortunately.

Morning, Kat.

Hope you're doing OK. Sorry I'm late here - I only just saw your thread.

My father didnt give up at all and lived to 83 and died from other causes nothing to do with smoking. My step mother died of lung cancer and was a non-smoker.

I do not know what you are going through, Kat. The best estimate is that you have a more serious version of what my father has.

Dad was a smoker between the age of 10 and 35 years of age. Twenty-five years of smoking did irreparable damage to his body. And the 30 years of being a non-smoker did help him undo the damage of some of his body. I have seen and heard him have health problems over the last few decades that are probably unrelated to his former smoking.

I have had a stroke in my mid-20s. I think I might have had one due to my untreated stress fracture in my leg that puffed up a little. One side of my face fell. I had slurred speech for a little while. And it took weeks (perhaps months) of good diet and exercise before I was recovered from the experience.

But, if you have had to see a doctor about your symptoms, you have had a much worse experience than I ever had. Good luck with your recovery.

Seems I had an infection, which has responded well to antibiotics.

I feel almost back to 'normal' again. Of course, I'm not, and must take it easy for a bit.

Oxygen and pulse levels are well within limits.
