Who and what you want them to be beyond your hopes and dreams, your personal failures and success.
What do you wish for your children?
To find their happiness, living the life they want,
knowing I am always there if they need me That is an important aspect in itself!
It’s what I’ve always said to my kids as they were growing up (and them challenging teens years) that the door will always be open to them, and we are always here for them.
I recall certain other parents were like “kick them out” attitude… (as teens?) yes as teens! It just seemed the norm but I wouldn’t be part of that attitude. How destructive! My son had a friend at tech school whose mother chucked him out at 16 … her new boyfriend was more important. It was sad as I thought he was a good kid… last I heard he was in jail.
So, telling your kids you are there for them always and that they can come back home if need to at anytime…well it’s given my kids a sense of more courage, freedom and comfort I suppose.
There’s a role reversal that’s happening as they get older… they check in on us and continually make sure we keep any medical appointments etc
Sometimes it works out that you really do get in return…what you give.
