because your thinking is  clouded by the conservative mantra of "personal responsibility' alone being the determinant of individual prosperity.

Both of them are off-course, yelling at one another. Fitz thinks the voice will close the gap, Price thinks it wont.

She is right, but (like you) she has the wrong solutions ie, 'personal responsibility' will close the gap.

As for Fitz, he will  have to learn about the real  solutions to close the gap, when the voice fails to do so..

Noel Pearson already knows the solution, as discussed with prof. Bill Mitchell. in this youtube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGdBprM_cCQ

What are the real solutions?

Public sector management of private sector markets.

For specifics re closing the gap, see the Pearson-Mitchell interview.

Radical change is needed and mainstream economics will not be part of the solution

......

On Q&A last night, someone asked if capitalism is destroying democracy; the answer of course is it's not capitalism per se, but failure of governments to pay decent wages for age-care workers, teachers, hospitals and to provide social housing,  which is destroying the electorate's commitment to, and involvement in democracy.

👆 I'll leave this here for someone else to have fun with.

I just thank God that my parents worked hard to put us through the best schools they could AND through Uni. Otherwise we would be as dumb and as clueless as Frodo too 😔😳😐

The public sector has has been managing remote Aboriginal camps for decades.

That's why they look like socialism.

Where??

Most panelists and audience members on Q&A last night agreed democracy is failing even in the 1st world  eg,  can't pay decent wages to health care, disability care, age care  workers, nor fund social housing.

http://bilbo.economicoutlook.net/blog/?p=50279

Radical change is needed and mainstream economics will not be part of the solution

Of course the neoliberal conservative on the panel - an Oz  'security' spook -  was more interested in going to war with China...

Anyway - I see where great divvie is getting his ideas... not necessarily CCP China... reading the book meself right now.... anyway - what he and others WANT to overlook is that we already have a 'rules based' order - and replacing it with the CCP controlled LAW type of order = absolute control by the state and for the state, and hoping for a valid outcome out of all the flame and fury and blood - will do nothing but put more people under probable despotism at the drop of a hat and/or at the whim of the Kommissar or central bureaucracy.

I note that the author of the book I'm reading, while being pretty good on some things - tends to skirt around any possible conclusion that sounds or looks bad for the Chinese government.  It's a form of surrender monkey without the monkey.... more the surrender organ grinder if you catch my drift ....
