An anti-corruption investigation has found ‘‘evidence of misconduct and improper influence’’ at the highest levels of the Andrews Government over the awarding of a $1.2 million contract to a Labor-affiliated union.

Delivering a devastating blow to the government’s integrity, the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission inquiry has found that senior government advisers and public servants were acting in the “perceived interests” of ministers and the Premier in handing the contract to the union without a competitive tender process.

IBAC tabled its Operation Daintree report in state parliament on Wednesday, almost four years after receiving an anonymous complaint about a contract awarded to the Health Workers Union on the eve of the 2018 Victorian election.
