John Harvey Kellogg was born February 26th, 1852, in Tyrone Michigan. To say that he was a complicated man doesn’t quite do him, or the controversy surrounding him, justice. While we might imagine him as a devoted industrialist praying at the altar of 19th capitalism, he was, in fact, a deeply flawed, troubled and religious man, riddled with enigmas.

J.H Kellogg
To understand J.H Kellogg’s beliefs about the world he found himself in, it helps to look at his personal beliefs. A vocal member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, after gaining his medical degree the now Dr Kellogg would go on to lead the Battle Creek Sanatorium in Michigan, which was owned and operated by The Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The Church stands outside many mainstream Christian viewpoints, focusing much of its attention on the Second Coming, as well as promoting healthy eating and vegetarianism, and encouraging members to be chaste, to abstain from alcohol or smoking and, critically for Kellogg, from masturbation.

It may seem an odd thing for a church to fixate on, but they were by no means the first and generations of theologians had debated the issue before them. Kellogg was distinctly on the anti-masturbation side of the argument.

I see a lot of men still in their early 20's who can best be described as skinny fat - there is a special kind of soft pudginess about them as if they spent their childhood and teenage years eating nothing but fast food and drinking soft drinks. I have even noticed in this age group an aversion to water saying "it doesn't have any taste" ... Roll Eyes

Guess there must be a lot of F A T RuZZians from where you come from, eh, Ivan?

Got a taste of the Western (fast) food and will go to war in order to keep it.

Nah, I was just annoyed at what was written the other day. Perhaps it was the booze typing. So, I do apologise for what I wrote. Realistically, I agree with you. Fat people are an eyesore. I happen to be fat. I consider myself (in agreeance with what you said) as an eyesore.

If you are interested in Kellog there was a wonderful novel written about him entitled "The Road to Wellville" which was later a hilarious movie (Bridgette Fonda was still hot then)

I saw exactly that this morning. A young couple in their 20s, both very much losing their youthful leanness. Both eating a HUGE acai bowl with probably with the calories of 2 Big Macs.

They'll have a paleo muffin top soon.

I like trolley shaming fatties at the supermarket.

America is so out of hand now that there are far too many trolleys to shame ... I just watch in amazement at the load of crap they are buying - all of it highly processed

i understand why it is happening

the average person feels like they are drowning.

big business has told them they need all this "stuff" to be happy and they swallowed it.

now they have so much debt to pay off those iphones and air cons and suv's and houses with ensuites that they live in a state of exhaustion and anxiety.

exhausted anxious people can re=energise by hitting the gym, meditating, going out into nature, becoming a desirable sexual partner and attracting a quality mate

or they can fall for the scam.

big business, big food, big tech can sit in their super yacht and look at the drowning person and say

have this coke, have this red bull, have this crispy crem donut, watch this endless BS on facebook, watch this porn, take this pill to wake you up, to suppress your appetitem, to put you to sleep

we will keep you safe, no one will be allowed to shame you,
just be a good little consumer who is a battery in OUR mattrix.

dont think for yourself
dont be self reliant

if you do, if you buck the system, we can make you a non person.
we have computers keeping a social credit score
soon we might cancel your credit card if you dont agree to fit in.

obedience in the new currency

just stay in your box , and be a battery in the mattrix

as klaus schwab said

you will own nothing but you will be happy (pleasured).

thats the future for most people.

what i call the "life of pure garbage"

its a co dependant deal with the devil
few will resist

and if you do resist, you can expect the authorities to get the unthinking masses to become their foot soldiers and come after you.

like the customers at maccas who never missed a big mac during covid and went online and shamed people at the beach or at the gym  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
just be a good little consumer

Just so. The "noble capitalists" have gone the game sewn up. Lives of pure garbage.

Worship the fridge?

Plant nice veges and worship Mother Earth.

She is in our every breath, no?

I know some people in business particularly in sales
And their view of the average consumer is that the average consumer is a joke
They would love to sell and market high quality stuff
High quality food

But
As they say

People are so incredibly stupid
So incredibly stuck in the matrix
So incredibly stuck in groupthink

That you might as well just give them what they want

I think McDonald's would love nothing more than to be able to offer a high-quality salad
In their stores
I think facebook would love to offer genuine community engagement
I think freediver would love deep and thoughtful posts

But the average person is so stuck in mediocrity
The only things that vibe with him
Are fat and sugar and salt
Emotional outbursts and outrage
And trying to get a little hit of dopamine by attacking other people online

The life of pure garbage is not imposed it is chosen

Even the extreme death anxiety
The anxiety around kovid
Is probably nothing more than an expression of narcissism
Me me me
I'm so important I can't stop thinking of anything but my own health
I am the centre of the universe
Is that not narcissism

Trump is a narcissist but at least he recognises it
I think he triggers a lot of other narcissists who are trying to hide it

Perhaps whilst kneeling before the refrigerator
You could reflect on that

I agree. FD has some great tips on how to make debates interesting and fun for all.

Quote:
Have you ever noticed how on some forums the debate always ends up as a personal slanging match? This can kill a forum as it puts off newcomers. Eventually, even those who are interested give up trying to have a serious debate. The bottom line is, no-one really cares about your personal vendettas or the outcome of your epic battles. At best, they just find it amusing to watch people wind themselves up.

There are two main causes of this. If the moderators fail to enforce a reasonable code of conduct, or they show bias in the enforcement of it, then heated arguments will be inevitable.

https://www.ozpolitic.com/articles/logical-fallacies.html

Mr Trump know all this, of course. He only trolls to wind up the leftards, no?
