He did not create them, he had no IP over them.

He was an employee for the US govt who took assets that were not his.

He was allowed to take them as long as
they were securely stored which they were.
The Govt. knew where they were and
even what locks and security protected them.
I don't know why he still had them with Govt. knowledge
so long after he lost the presidency.
Is it Trump's fault or the Govts fault?

I think it's just a political witch hunt.

The "government" had been requesting those records back for two years, dear.

Are you blaming the "government" for knowing he had them?

No the problem is that this time maybe they caught the witch.

No he definitely was not allowed to remove them from the building. The day he was no longer president he had no right to access them at all without making the proper requests with a specific reason.

Having one single document would have anyone else arrested on the spot. It happened in 2022, A woman went to prison over 1 document where the correct process was not followed with some notes she had taken.

The government had been trying to get them back for 18 months.

They talked to him and after 12 months got back 12 boxes. They were told that was all of them.

The found that there were still documents missing so asked again - more negotiation and the got a few more back. There were still documents missing. They subpoenaed the missing documents and visited again. They recovered a few more boxes.

Then they found still more boxes missing. The got the video tape to the storage room and found that boxes were being re located.

After 18 months Trump had refused to return all the documents. In what had been recovered top secret and critically dangerous documents were included.

The FBI had exhausted every method to recover the docs. Trump had obstructed the recovery and moved docs to hide them.
When the search was done they found documents in at least 4 locations including Trumps office none of these locations were secure.

You sound like you're embellishing the story.   Undecided

Actually there is a lot left out for brevity.

Like Trumps lawyer sighing off that all the documents were returned.

or

Trumps Lawyers failing to claim in their court filings things like the documents had been de-classified. You see the poo they spread liberally in the media are just called Perjury when used in court.

In fact in their request for a Special master to review the documents they specify that a high security clearance is necessary. This would not be true if the documents had been declassified.

I know, Dnarever, but they can't do that, it's harassment. Mr Trump's supporters have every right to GO WILD, no?

Yes but they are happy to go wild with no reason at all. In fact they have a history of going wild in response to being told lies.

Very excitable bunch these red necked trumpeters.

Now now, JS, Bobby's come round on this. Mr Trump - and Hillary - were perfectly entitled to store government records, either in the basement at Mar a Lago, or in Hillary's private email server.

Hillary was found to have 22 classified pieces of information on her private  server. Mr Trump had a few hundred thousand. He agreed to put a lock on the basement door, so it's all good.

What's wrong with that?

With Hillary the question really is were her email more secure or less  so that all the others who had theirs on Yahoo or GMAIL servers ? (Including the Trumps).

Do you know that all of the right wing US media outlets like Fox News have admitted that Trump didn't have the right to any of these documents?

True, true. The Trump family used Gmail, and that's okay.

Look, they didn't want any pesky officials sniffing around their business, alright? What's wrong with that?

Mr Trump probably got his laws mixed up when he wanted to lock Hillary up. It's perfectly understandable, it happens all the time. In fact, I'm sure there are a few technicalities he could still get Hillary on, just not emails and CERTAINLY not storing government documents, okay?

That wouldn't be fair.

Yes, well we wouldn't want any hangings suggested here. I do feel that would be a little extreme.

Look, has anybody considered that maybe Mr Trump did the right thing here?

Okay, it may have been a tad illegal if we're going to get all by the book here, but what if he had good reason to keep top secret government records in the trusted  hands of his illegal immigrant employees at Mar a Lago?

The National Archives people leak like a seive, we all know that. They're Deep State. How can they possibly be trusted?

On the bright side, another Chinese spy just got busted at Mar a Lago quite recently, so we know the security there is tight. We can trust Mr Trump on this one, believe me. Let's not get carried away.

Bobby, post your Jesus meme again for Marla, dear.

You bought that hanging line.

Someone spent 2 weeks making a gallows for dirty Dan in Melbourne.  Smiley
