Going up 30% for them and down for the KwH I put back in....

If I had the cash I'd battery up and put in a wind generator and cut the wires.

Privatisation always was a failure waiting to happen.. the ex rang Essential Energy and their line was that we providers of power from our solar are not paying the upkeep of the network... she retorted - well - what's the connection fee, which is 80% of our bill, doing?

Pharken liars!  Phark their shareholders... we don't need them - the bastards are letting the network run down anyway and not providing the service and maintenance needed, just so they can feed their pharken shareholders... meanwhile they pay out billions in dividends and yet can't afford tax, just like every other company in this poor fellow, my country.

Take Back The Power Lines!!  Tie their tax to minimum at full rate on what they can afford to pay as dividends - that's profit right there... pharken leeches...

Nonsense.  This is not something that happened in the  last 6 months.

Electricity prices have more than doubled in the last 10+ years, not least to pay for the rooftop panel rebates and subsidies.

New gas was banned by Vic and NSW for green ideological reasons so when the global price shot up Australia had no extra capacity for the local market.

No new gas power stations are planned except Kurri Kurri.  Many existing coal fired stations are going to be closed in a decade without any replacement.  Wind turbines and solar panels will not meet the demand and they are costly and need to be replaced every 10-15 years.

Expensive, unreliable energy will mean continued de-industrialisation with jobs going offshore where energy is cheap and reliable.

Frank, that is weapons-grade bullshit.

The Liberals DID conceal an increase in energy prices from the public. The fact that the prices generally rise each year is irrelevant. That's called "inflation".

Power prices to surge up to 18.3 per cent as energy market turmoil flows through to households (26 May 2022)
Quote:
Incoming energy minister Chris Bowen blamed the Coalition government for the higher DMO and criticised his predecessor, Angus Taylor, for making a political decision to delay the release of the report.

"Nine years of Liberal denial and delay have a cost, and that cost is being paid by the Australian people, by Australian households in higher energy prices," he said.

"They got through the entire election campaign without telling the truth. They sat on this report, they approved its delay until after the election."

When it becomes cost-effective for people to ditch the grid, they will do so. The critical point for a return on investment (ROI) is five years: if savings can be demonstrated within five years, it becomes attractive for businesses to invest, as a five-year time for ROI is a common point where businesses will be willing to spend money to make future savings. We're not there yet, but it is only a matter of time.

For households, it's more variable. Some people will be early adopters of technology, others will wait until the ROI is much lower. An ROI of three years brings it into the range where bank loans to finance household energy conversions become viable. That is the point where strong downward pressure will be placed on service charges. At that point, retailers would have to consider abolishing their service charges just to stay in business.

One thing is clear: there is a firm price ceiling on service charges that cannot be exceeded lest the energy retailers start bleeding customers, and that price ceiling is coming down over time.

with corporate greed, it'll happens sooner rather than later. They use every excuse to push up prices, all whilst continuously making record profits.

When is it their turn to absorb some of the cost rises, and make a decent profit instead of a record profit, Instead of the consumer?

Instead they're slowly tightening the noose around their own necks and forcing people to look elsewhere.

I am not going to take Bowens word for it.

Reading on:

The decision comes just weeks after the body that runs the National Electricity Market said wholesale prices have rocketed more than 140 per cent in the 12 months to March 31.

That increase was largely driven by surging prices for coal and gas, which are linked to international markets that have been trading at record highs amid the war in Ukraine and global instability.

you don't need to. The Australian energy regulator has said as much and the change of legislation is a matter of public record.

All of this is irrelevant. The Liberals concealed this price rise from the voters during an election campaign. Meanwhile, the Liberal party's own website was trumpeting lower energy prices.

Lower Power Prices (liberal.org.au)
Quote:
We’ve now turned a corner. Household electricity prices in the National Electricity Market have fallen by 8%, and for businesses by 10-12%, over the past two financial years.

The ACCC says electricity costs are now the lowest they’ve been in 8 years.

(snip)
Quote:
Information current as at May 2022

Yet no mention of the rising prices they hid from the voters during the election campaign.
