Australia's New Public Holiday Revealed

Australia’s new public holiday date revealed   Smiley
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese answered the question on every Australian’s mind – will we get a public holiday to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth?

News.com.au

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed Australians will be given a day off to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

A National Day of Mourning for the late monarch has been declared for September 22, the Thursday after Mr Albanese returns from the Queen’s funeral in London.

“It will be a one-off national public holiday. That’s to allow people to pay their respects for the passing of Queen Elizabeth,” the Prime Minister told the ABC.

“I spoke to all Premiers and chief ministers yesterday and I'm writing to them formally this morning, they will have received their letters by now. They have all agreed that it’s appropriate that it be a one-off national public holiday.”

Very nice.

But, I strongly suspect the majority will not be paying their respects for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II but rather it will just be seen as another day off (and a booze up for many, I'm sure).

Western Australia is a particularly interesting case - a National Day of Mourning public holiday now on Thursday September 22nd and the Queens Birthday public holiday the following Monday - September 26th.

I'm predicting there will be a lot of "sickies" here on Friday September 23rd so many can have an extra long weekend - Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The Queen's Birthday public holiday is on Monday 26 September, so take Friday off as an annual leave day and have a five-day-Lizzie-weekend   Smiley

Also it should be remembered, if the day is a public holiday those that work that day, should get the public holiday penalty rates.   Smiley

Yes.

I'm assuming (hoping) each state and territory will officially declare it a holiday, as is required under the NES:

" ... any other day or part-day declared or prescribed by or under a law of a State or Territory to be observed generally within the State or Territory (or a region of the State or Territory) as a public holiday."

👆 Good. It will also give those Australians who are working ie Gen X, Y etc onwards the opportunity to reflect on the urgent need for Australia to become a republic.

Baby Boomers can sit down and STFU because their day has come and gone and they've done SFA about helping Australia move forward! The sooner we get rid of this dysfunctional inbred family and all it stands for ... the better.

Edit : My apologies : I forgot to say good morning OzPol.

Something which has obviously been overlooked by declaring a public holiday at such short notice.

We have 60 plus patients booked in our cancer clinic in the morning. I have 8 patients booked for theatre. Every single patient has waited weeks to months for their medical care. Every clinic and operating lists overbooked till December. What do we do for them?

Quote:
For those who say “stay open”, remember that we need nurses, allied health, clerks, technicians, etc to run a clinic or operating list. If schools & childcare are closed, a lot of the health care workers can’t turn up to work and health care won’t run.

Not good... not good at all.

And, I'm guessing this will be happening Australia wide on the 22nd.

He removed a criminal from The Lodge.

In my opinion, that was the best thing he has ever done.

But who knows, he might do even better.

He will be removed in 3yrs time along with his boss Penny Pong for being obvious traitors and cock suckers but Albo gets recognition for a day off, full credit to him for that one.
