Really annoying that a couple of scumbag Liberal staffers can get blind drunk and it ends up costing the taxpayers $Millions.

Just as annoying as those scumbag Abos burning down the front of Old Parliament House and the taxpayers end up paying $5 Million.

It is very very annoying.  Angry

Lehrmann, as a 'sacked' employee, will struggle to get compensation.  I can see an avenue through wrongful dismissal (sacked for a security breach).....what security breach etc etc???

But Government might take a hard line and force him into the witness box and then, if he is faced with having to do that.....his knees will buckle.

I'm angry, disappointed and appalled at this payout from
the taxpayers' pockets—and mine.  No payout should've
even been contemplated until the conclusion of the case—
either way—against Lehrmann.

If Lehrmann was ultimately found to be guilty of rape, then
as a public servant, I can accept Higgins would have a valid
claim against the government in toto.

This is undoubtedly going to open the floodgates for every
female public servant who's been patted on the bum, pecked
on the cheek, or told she's got a great rack.

If Lehrmann is found to be innocent next year, then he'd have
every right to sue Higgins for every dollar she's won today.
At least this—unfortunately—proves our claims that she's
nothing more than a money grubbing slut, who manufactured
this entire scenario.

That was the figure for the civil action.

The payout is a completely different thing.

No figure has been mentioned - it's confidential.

Earlier in December, Ms Higgins's civil action named three respondents: Senators Linda Reynolds and Michaelia Cash, for whom Ms Higgins worked, as well as the Commonwealth.

Senator Reynolds is since believed to have been removed from the claim.

The documents set out Ms Higgins's intention to sue for sexual harassment, sex discrimination, disability discrimination, negligence, and victimisation.

At the time, the claim was expected to be worth about $3 million, including $2.5 million for future economic loss, past economic loss approaching $100,000 and general damages of $100,000.

None of those figures were mentioned on Tuesday.

You, and I, don't know how much the payout is.

Bruce Lehrmann has hired one of Australia’s top defamation lawyers, Sydney defamation lawyer Mark O’Brien to examine the prospects of legal action against multiple media outlets including Channel 10’s The Project and the ABC for broadcasting live a speech by Brittany Higgins at the press club with Grace Tame.

If he gets in the box which i doubt he will he just has to keep saying what he has said all along, he didn't rape her, why is her word worth more than his.

Get em Bruce.

A confidential settlement has been reached between Brittany Higgins and the commonwealth in the wake of the former Liberal Party staffer’s claims that she was raped at Parliament House.

Lawyer Noor Blumer, acting for Ms Higgins, issued a statement on Tuesday night.

“At a mediation held today, the commonwealth and Ms Higgins settled her claims,” Ms Blumer said. “At the request of Ms Higgins, the parties have agreed that the terms of the settlement are confidential.”

The agreement came after a day of mediation.

Yep. Nothing about that surprises me.

So right now Brittany needs to wait for the tax funded cheque to issue and clear in her bank account.

After that her creepy Bruce lookalike hanger on boyfriend will "support" Brittany in buying a house together.

After 12 months of that ... her creepy current boyfriend will announce that they've parted ways and would like the public to respect their privacy whilst he grabs half of the value of the asset.

I've seen these scenarios way too many times. Unfortunately.

And if he does that, he will get five eighths of fuq all, having been with her for at best 18 months.  Maybe 50% of the interest earned on any settlement she received from this settlement, at best.  Lisa Jones, you know SFA about Family Law so I really suggest you not offer comments as though you are experienced/qualifed sufficiently to do so.

Yes Aussie (you complete clueless moron)...what would I know about Family Law after surviving its court processes which stretched over a period of 2 years and cost me over a million dollars in fees.
