And of course, if one of these crusty old white guys' daughters were to tell them that they had been raped, they'd say "Everyone is innocent until proven guilty dear". Unless you can produce solid evidence of the sexual assault, we'll just have to assume you're lying".

Disgusting pigs.

Try again..... it's not about lying - it's about securing a conviction - which is something that should never be pursued at any cost and with any rules made up as we go .......

Personally I think a book without a conviction is about as valid as a Faroffistani passport...

A far better Truthtelling story would be:-

Fear And Loathing In Lost Causes

a nightmare journey to the heartland of the Australian dreamtime

The terrifying true story of nurses and teachers traveling to remote Indigenous controlled areas seeking to bring help and relief to remote communities beset by poverty, drug abuse, violence and family abuse ......

Every time I consider this stuff - I think of the two older ladies in Kenya, who fought off a pack of Mau Maus armed with a pistol and the family dog..... the dog died defending them but they kicked arse on a few Mau Mau....

Maybe Outback teachers and nurses dedicated to elevating the Indigenous out of their mire need to be armed, trained, and licenced to carry...................

Stop being silly - you were better than that.  Now you just side with any ridiculous activist idea that comes along and hold it as gospel without a single thought of your own...

Are you losing your marbles?

If you have a reasoned argument, lay it out.... if not - stop the ad homs.

greg is lapsing into insanity along with one or two others here... you know who..... what started off as a joke playing the devil's advocate has turned more and more vicious and has become internalised into a perpetual state of sheer paranoia, self-delusion, and open hostility...

It's almost as if there is a single puppet master controlling them here..... I count four....

You?

People will buy and read Brittany's Book out of a lurid desire to get the low-down and a desire to 'do something' to protect and defend the innocent etc .... will be treated to a series of groundless assertions without solid proof to support them ... and will come away from that holding it high in the air as a new form of Bible for the Oppressed..... and eventually it will become the only truth about the whole thing regardless of the facts verified and the decision of courts..

Such is the nature of the madness of crowds with a half-education......

An advance of $325k?  They must be planning this to be a best seller..... soon to be on every library's shelf ... at $30 a pop, that's sales of around 11,000 just to repay the advance ..... so they're lookng at selling at least 100,000 and maybe a million copies ........seriously - how do you make a book out of this?  People will buy it and find it has nothing of value to add......

I'd have to disagree with this.  The sworn testimony of Brittany Higgins is
NOT "very hard evidence".  As has been said numerous times in this thread,
there is no evidence of any kind—not even circumstantial.  It's simply her
word against Lehrmann's word, or 'she said', 'he said'.

Not being present at the trial makes it difficult to comment knowledgeably,
but my optimistic guess would be that Lehrmann will be acquitted, with no
case to answer.

BTW, anybody who accepts any sworn testimony as being an authentic record
of the facts it purports to represent is, to say the least, naive.

Why were her clothes off, Geoff? Why was she there, naked and alone?

And the crusty old conservatives continue to condone rape.

Dear oh dear

I don't see anybody here "condoning" rape.  You need to explain
further what you mean by this, as it's a pretty extreme accusation.

And your desperate, puerile pejoratives—"crusty old"—are duly noted.
Is that truly the best you can do?    Sad really.

I have not read a single post by ANYONE condoning rape on this forum. Perhaps Groggy is reading our posts backwards looking for hidden messages 😐

I've now gone back through this topic and I STILL haven't been able to locate a single post CONDONING RAPE!!!

There appears to be no viable evidence supporting Higgins's claim
of rape.  After the alleged rape, she failed to report it to the police,
for 5 days, and also failed to get a rape kit performed.  She admitted
she was unconscious during the incident, and couldn't even remember
it until two days afterwards.  Nor could she remember being taken
to parliament house, or to minister Reynolds' office.

Three weeks later, Higgins told the police she wouldn't be continuing
with her claim of rape.  But 11 months on, she told her story publicly
to news.com.au and The Project, and said she had plans to take up
the matter with police again.  Obviously with dollar signs in her eyes.

So it comes down to a case of "she said, he said".  Which I reckon
will see a verdict of no case to answer for Bruce Lehrmann.

Think I have already said....that position has passed.  If there was no case to answer, the Judge would have taken it in her own hands and directed the Jury to bring in a verdict of not guilty.

Even before that happens, Defence makes a formal submission of no case to answer......if Judge agrees, first thing they do is make a very strong indication to the Prosecutor to enter a nolle prosequi.  If Prosecutor agrees, he asks for the "return of the Indictment, and personally writes on it, 'The Crown will proceed no further with this Indictment."  If Prosecutor declines to do that, and Judge is adamant, he then will direct the Jury to bring in a verdict of 'not guilty.'

None of that happens in this Higgins/Lehrmann matter.  There clearly is a 'case to answer' as that is defined technically.

Interesting concept just occurred to me and raised at the sewer.

If he is acquitted, I suggest he better not repeat his denial out in public as if he does, she might sue him for defamation just like that woman in the USA is suing Trump after he denied her public allegation she made that he had raped her.  Trump's denial amounts to calling her a liar...so...defamation.

Yes - the case to answer is most likely the one to placate public opinion of people who know nothing about the actual events... send it to the jury otherwise the hounds will be baying at the gates for judicial blood and crying in the streets about the poor victims and how the judiciary don;t do their jobs properly and we desperately need all men accused of rape castrated and imprisoned for life on the spot  ... the case to answer is flimsy.

Tell us... mothra and Aussie - why was Higgins naked on the couch?  What created that situation for her?  Tell us from your own first hand knowledge as a fly on the wall at the time......

So when she comes out of the 'not guilty' thing and it is trumpeted all over the media as a miscarriage of justice etc - he cannot sue her or anyone else?

Pretty one way, don' cha think?  One rule for one, another for another.... so that's the way you prefer it....

Jesus - you could be a great advocate for the Jews in a court to see if they go to the gas chambers....
