The jury have found that they cannot come to a unanimous decision on the accused rape charge so that should be the end of it, how many times can the judge order them back to reconsider their verdict.

I cannot see how, after holding a position for five days, anyone is going to change their mind 360 degrees now.

Hung Jury.  Jury discharged.

Crown considers whether to go again, I believe they would and Round Two will commence in some months time.

How many Rounds will the taxpayer be required to fund?

Well they clearly didn't do a good job of assessing the likelihood of a successful prosecution in this matter hey.

No, The DPP did a good job. A bad job would have been an acquittal in 10 minutes.

That'd be 180 degrees!

That's what I said!

Cool

Cool

350 degrees is full circle - back to where you were.

180 is a U-turn - an about-face.

They did.  As did the Magistrate who committed Lehrmann to Trial.  As did the Trial Judge who totally unsurprisingly allowed the Jury to consider the matter.

I predict the following:

1. Hung Jury

2. DPP pulls the pin.

Case is dismissed.

You Aussie are predicting the following:

1. Hung Jury

2. DPP signs off on a second trial

3. Defendant is subsequently found guilty by the 2nd Jury.

Wonder what other Ozpoliticians are predicting ....

Anyway, Aussie - your idea is moot because you have no way of knowing for certain that
Britanny's purse was burgled... if you are the police, you can only investigate....

You presume way too much .... obviously you want this guy to be guilty.

If I can believe Higgins over Lehrmann, and I do, her purse was burgled by Lehrmann.  She says it was under oath, he made NO denial under oath.

He also gave three/four entirely different reasons why his hand was in or anywhere near the her purse.

But in this case, the money was still there... and there was no substantial corroborating evidence to suggest it was not.

He doesn't have to make any denials under oath..... that is his Right.

I told you hung jury weeks ago.... now you agree, but argue the leg off a table.

A retrial for sure. This case has become too much in the public interest for the ACT DPP to walk away from.

I've told you already - the decision was made to place all such allegations before a jury - the hope being that they will find guilt in some where the likelihood was remote... and regardless of the available evidence.... or lack of it.

How would you like to be a bloke in that position?

How would it be if it were your son?  Still the same?  If your son came to you and said, "Dad - I've just been accused of raping a girl I went back to the office with, to get some papers/keys.  You know I live with my gf.  She flaked on the Minister's couch dead drunk and I decided to just leave her to it and go home.  I didn't do it!"..... what would you do???

I agree with Lisa - I don't much like the bloke... but that is not a reason to find guilt.

I have made no prediction on what the Jury will decide if there is a re-trial.  I have stated what I would decide if I were on the Jury.
