What a shocking thing to experience/witness 🥺😞

Channel 9 flatly refused to show the crash on TV, they said: "We are not going to let you see it" ... they cut the footage and we never got to see any crash

Did the crash really happen? it's up for debate

Oh, FFS   Roll Eyes

Oh it happened....

https://7news.com.au/news/qld/investigation-launched-after-deadly-helicopter-cra...

We're very worried about the 36 yr old woman from Sydney and her family. Read here 👇

The other victims of the fatal incident have been identified as a husband and wife from Britain - aged 65 and 57 respectively. The fourth victim has been identified as a 36-year-old woman from Sydney.

Those severely injured include a 10-year-old boy, who is related to the Sydney woman, and a mother and son from Victoria, aged 33 and nine.

All three remain in hospital.

A witness described the collision as the aircraft having “smacked into each other” about 2pm on Monday.

“Then they broth dropped and one of the helicopters actually lit on fire,” the witness told 7NEWS.

What was it shown from a distance … someone’s personal vid probably with android phone… clearly showed the chopper took off into the chopper already in the air coming in to land.

What’s exactly is to debate?
I’m certain it’s for the aviation authority to have that filming as they conduct their investigation.

I was looking at the flight paths and helipads in the herald sun and it looks like them helipads are too close to each other maybe?
It showed the path the chopper that was already in the air had somehow made a circle and controlled landing in the sandbank after it was hit by the rotors of the chopper below.

Witnesses say the chopper that was taking off had its rotors ripped apart, had also caught fire too.

I make a bet -

I bet there were warning signs: days, weeks or months before the accident  -
that went ignored.

I spent many a time over the years sitting across the broadwater watching them zoom in and out wondering how they didn't crash ... it was inevitable they would crash eventually with one taking off whilst another is landing just 50 meters or so away. This was happening every 15 minutes, every day, 7 days a week

It means the safety system has totally collapsed with
near misses not being reported.

Who was going to report it? Sea world? And miss out on $400 odd every 15 minutes per chopper? Or the pilots working for seaworld who would be told to stay home, without pay, whilst it was sorted?

I'm guessing the chopper pilots were relatively unskilled, and
had become too lax about landing and liftoff procedures through
having done it a thousand times.

Complacency is a recipe for disaster.

How is it that these blokes flying in close formation never collided?

So many experts with so many opinions. I don't know who is at fault and so I will wait until the real experts have completed their examination. The only thing I am certain of is that it did happen, certain conspiracy theorists notwithstanding.

Looking at the video, I just can't see why one or the other didn't see the other..... they just kept going without a thought.

Highly trained and with countless hours ... they do collide at times ...  they are all arriving in the same direction.  That's what I said - a properly organised landing space/schedule/approach-departure would have prevented this.  The chopper taking off , pilot on left side, may have had cockpit frame in the way... but the other one, pilot on left side, should have had a clear view.

I'd say the CVRs and/or interviews with survivors will tell the story.  Pilots distracted... loss of situational awareness.... chatting with passengers maybe on a 'milk run' done too many times.  BTW - I hate those choppers - that type.

What a way to go....

That's part of the problem.  They need one place for tourists to go and if they had to split tourists to two locations that could create confusion and cost them money as some might think it's not worth the bother
