Hmmm.... well the drive to sex is an imperative for both men and women ... pregnancy is an optional choice for many these days... though some cultures persist with overbreeding for the same results over and over. Perhaps a good argument for keeping those cultures separate but equal... especially when the reality is that by bringing them here into a safe haven for healthcare etc, we are actually promoting their overbreeding and thus putting pressure on all aspects of our society while achieving nothing to alleviate the prolems in theirs.
I read The Road To Hell by Michael Marin, and it is illuminating about the real effects of intervention in countries already overburdened by their own population.... so the follow-on questions are whether or not we should be trying to alleviate that problem by bringing them here and thus permitting an even greater blow-out in world population overall, or trying endlessly to 'assist' them with food and medicals, and whether or not we should simply leave them to their own devices. In doing the two former, BTW - we do not 'alleviate' the problems in their own homeland - we are simply making space for more to fill while removing the natural pressures that prevent over-population.
Sounds cruel but that's how it is.
The White Man's Burden, so savagely panned (under the ridiculous half-baked feminist sky) for decades now, is still in full swing, with the exception that instead of trying to bring civilisation and restraint to these burgeoning population in their already over-strained homeland, we are trying to do so by importing them in numbers to our rapidly becoming over-strained homeland. So now - under the feminist sky - it is the White Woman's Burden as exemplified by Merken (that name must give rise to some fab jokes) in Germany, and other 'socialists'.
Politicians with their heads in the sand and all pumped up on modern theories of equality of man etc are not helping here... rather they are creating the environment in which, when the inevitable collapse comes, this country will be internally weakened by far too many stress fractures and will collapse into chaos.
A thoughtful post.
Two points: birth rates fall when living standards and women's education increase. So it might be smart for the IMF to assist in poverty alleviation the 3rd world, especially Africa.
Yes, the idea of importing workers because we can't/won't train our own is silly;
As is the mainstream neoclassical theory of unlimited growth (increasing GDP) to maintain/grow prosperity.
and mass immigration is also just 'kicking the can down the road', in a globally constrained world.
Meanwhile, in a sad world, Tate is doing all right for himself (until he ends up in prison, as is likely....).
