Fatal Shark Attack in Perth's Swan River
Feb 5th, 2023 at 10:45am

Very sad story   Cry

A 16-year-old girl has died after what is believed to be a shark attack in the Swan River south of Perth on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities were alerted to the incident, near the Fremantle Traffic Bridge in North Fremantle, at about 3pm.

Ambulances were sent to the scene and people were warned to stay out of the river.

Just before 6pm, WA Police confirmed the girl had died at the scene.

The poor girl just wanted to swim with the dolphins, so she jumped off her jet-ski and got into the water.  Tragic.

Anyone who lives in Perth/Fremantle will know that you can see dolphins at that particular part of the river almost every day at around 2:30PM.

Most aren't aware that sharks can often be nearby though.

(Don't believe the myth that dolphins always scare sharks away).

Shark sightings in the Swan River are rare, but they are definitely out there.  I've seen them.

It must have been terrible for her friends to witness such a horrible event.

Bull sharks seen in the Swan River, this time two years ago:

...

People often mistake them for dolphins, as you don't expect to see sharks in the suburbs.

Very sad, however it's a fact that thanks to improved water quality in harbours around the country marine creatures are re-establishing themselves in places they would not have been see a few decades ago.

True.

But these bull sharks have been in the Swan River for many decades.

Gummy sharks too (not that they do any harm).

It's mating season for the bull sharks at the moment.

Several times now I've seen dolphins in the Swan River with a shark swimming amongst them (or very close behind them).

This poor girl didn't realise that one of the dorsal fins belonged to a shark.

Incredibly sad for everyone involved.

My condolences to the girl's family and friends.

Personally, I wouldn't swim in any part of the Swan River, not just the Fremantle end of it.

Bull sharks have been spotted around the Burswood area, and as far up the Maylands Yacht Club.

I've personally seen fishing rods yanked out of the ground/beach holders and pulled underwater by sharks in the Rivervale area.

death is a fairly normal part of life and of nature.

i suppose the urban chode doesnt like to think about it very much.

he lives in the illusion that death shouldnt happen in this day and age.

what happened, happened and couldnt have happened any other way because it didnt

South Africans swim in rivers with Bull Sharks swimming just metres past them and they never get attacked.
But then again, the White South Africans are superior Alpha species of white compared to the likes of Peccary and Smith type Aussies. Grin

Insufferable prick.

Shitting on the memory of a 16 year old kid taken in the most tragic of circumstances.

You truly are the lowest form of life on the planet.

That's really deep. Especially for you.

How about condolences for this young girl's family and friends?

(Greg beat me to it)

Notice how Peckerhead always brings up the odd bleeding heart topic so he can virtual signal himself apart from every other maggoty topic and post he makes. Grin
