Sounds reasonable enough on the face of it, but then I read this bit: "One of the real key indicators of the likelihood of a woman or family suffering violence [or] being killed in a domestic violence situation is the presence of a firearm in the house,"    The implication being that firearms owners are more likely to be wife bashers than others, and the involvement of some 'Womens Safety and Wellbeing' organisation smacks of an agenda rather than a well intentioned  safeguard.

An interim AVO is enough to have firearms license suspended and guns confiscated. A good behaviour bond for any offence will have firearms license cancelled and guns confiscated.

The vast majority of women shot in DV are not done by licensed gun owners they are done by criminals with illegal guns so this change will make very little if any difference.

Those with illegal guns don't have a license don't register guns so this will not make any difference for those with illegal guns.

As for suicides before 1996 guns were the most common method this has changed to hanging being most common method. The 1996 gun laws made no difference to suicide rates it only changed the method. The gun grabbers don't care about suicides they're happy with people using a rope instead of a gun.

Nope.  Wrong on all counts.

The legislation in no way "implies" that gun owners are more
likely to be "wife bashers".  To make that claim, you need to
cite references supporting it.     Links please.

And of course all affected groups—such as women's safety
organisations—need to be involved.  You're seeing an "agenda"
where there is none.  Why specifically do you disagree with
women's support and wellbeing groups being included?  You
seem to think it's okay for all the legislation to be determined
by men, but not by women?     Isn't that sexist?

Since 1996, the all persons suicide rate has dropped from 14.8 per 100,000 to 12.0 per 100,000 in 2021. in Australia.

Since 1996, hanging has increased from 5.3 persons per 100,000 to 7.5 per 100,000 in 2021.

Since 1996, firearms has decreased from 3.5 persons per 100,000 to 1.1 per 100,000 in 2021.

"Anyone buying a gun in Western Australia will have to undergo mandatory and ongoing mental health checks, as part of a complete overhaul of the state's 50-year-old firearms legislation."

Excellent   Smiley

No reasonable person would have a problem with that.

You need a mental health check for saying all young people, no matter who or what they are, should be conscripted into the military

In times of national existential crisis and threat, all can expect to serve, either in combatant and non-combatant roles.  Vietnam wasn't one of those.  You are the only ex-conscript I have encountered who had bad things to say about the experience, Bias.  I served with numerous ex-conscripts who only had positive things to say about it.  I wonder if you had a bad experience that made you upset?   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

There is no excuse Brian that the Military or the Political has to say to justify conscription - which is SLAVERY.
The threat of execution and imprisonment shows that the Australian Governments are no different to Russia now, the Nazi, the Commies, the CCP, etc, etc.

The southern African Xhosas and others were happy to 'volunteer' to join the Boers.
The British had to 'buy' the Coloureds, then the 'blacks' as they called them.

Here and in NZ - the crap ADF has to brutalise Australians into enslavement to fight their American Wars. Roll Eyes

Go f*uck yourself you military nut-case! Go masturbate a nuclear warhead you pretzel. Tongue Grin

As I said, you need a mental health check ... you're a gun freak ... and you expect young people to be gun freaks just like you

Who would you select to be the "combatants"?, some tough home invaders, domestic violence offenders, parole breakers, financial swindlers, repeat traffic violators, illegal immigrants, sex workers, phone thieves, drug dealers, drug consumers, car thieves, child molesters? - or would they be your non combatants?

I'd love to see your selection process
