Really....Did you bother to read the OP???

Quote:
Twenty people died from gunshot wounds in the state last year, and Police Minister Paul Papalia said mental health issues were involved in at least half of those deaths.

He hoped the changes would help reduce murders, gun-related family and domestic violence, attacks on police and suicides.

It's pretty clear to everyone reading this you have no idea.

Right we have 20 firearm deaths.

How many were murders? How many of those were done by licensed firearm owners with registered guns?

How many were suicides? How many of those were done by licensed firearm owners with registered guns? How many of those were police using service firearms?

Suicide is the 2nd worst case scenario for mental health since mental health was supposedly involved in half of those 20 deaths can we safely assume they were suicides?

Hanging is our most common method of suicide is shooting yourself any worse for end result?

If you take a gun away from someone and they use a rope to kill themselves have bedwetting hoplophobes like you really achieved anything?

Do you think making every farmer take a day off to travel into town to get this check is going to do anything apart from inconvenience them? What about farm hands travelling into town do they miss out on a days pay to satisfy bedwetters like you?

This lunacy will probably impact Aboriginal firearm owners in remote areas are you OK with taking their guns away if they miss a doctors appointment?

They have the data on licensing with firearm deaths perhaps you should search or ask for it and see how little this will do instead of dog whistling about firearm owners.

You do not know the mental state of every person who owns a gun or wants to obtain one....The State has decided to ensure anyone in Western Australia who possesses a firearm must be mentally stable and responsible....Your opinion means nothing....I think the Govenment should go further and ensure anyone employed to carry a firearm should face a mandatory mental assesment every 12 months....Guns have only one purpose!!!

So mental health checks for owning a firearm are  wrong because???

Anyone want to answer this question???

You whole rant focuses on suicide and isolated events....There is no need for a mentally unstable person to be provided a firearm by the State....You would prefer to remain ignorant and give anyone a gun???

You still haven't answered any of my questions.

Do you have anything relevant to Australia i suggest you look at suicides before and after our gun laws and ask why rate didn't change yet method did with hanging becoming most common method.

A good friend of mine lost his older brother last year. He was an ice addict who shot himself with an illegal pistol so tell us how these mental health checks will impact those with illegal guns?

At 1 min 18 seconds NSW Police minister says greater than 97% of all firearm incidents are done by criminals with illegal guns. How is Mc Clowns idiocy going to have any impact on that with mental health testing?

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)

Summary

Electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) treats a range of mental illnesses by inducing a controlled seizure in the person.
Common side effects may include temporary difficulties with short-term memory.

What is Electroconvulsive treatment (ECT)?
Electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) is a medical procedure that is used to treat a range of mental illnesses, such as severe depression, catatonia and some forms of mania and schizophrenia The treatment induces controlled seizures in the person by placing small electrodes at specific locations on the head.

ECT has been used for over half a century in many different countries, and its effectiveness is well documented.

However, ECT is often the first treatment of choice in life-threatening situations, such as a potential suicide in the context of severe depression, because of the rapid results. Sometimes, ECT may be a good treatment option when medications are not tolerated, or other forms of therapy have not worked.

https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/electroconvul...

One of my best friends has specialised in mental health for over 30 years.

I saw him burning some books about 20 years ago i asked what they were and why was he burning them.

He doesn't believe zapping people with electric shocks should be used in treating people with mental health issues.

If anyone believes these mental health checks for firearm owners will do anything they should get their mental health checked.
